Time & Space

by Gretchen Elise

Compelling jazz-based songs about life, love and the world that flirt with soul, blues, electronica, and deep house. Brazilian jazz-flavored vocal melodies, collaborations with hip hop and reggae artists, great production and always a good groove.

Album Notes
Gretchen Elise is a Philadelphia- based singer-songwriter whose passion for life and the unexpected engages listeners and audiences. Time & Space (BMI/2010) delivers exactly what listeners crave: good music. Her 2010 full-length CD recording “Time & Space” expands the catchy songwriting style of her first, more jazz-based CD into realms informed by European-flavored electronica and deep, soulful house. Gretchen’s music is colored by a childhood spent listening to Philadelphia popular jazz and R & B radio and broadened by years living in Norway and Germany and her fluent absorption of 5 languages. Cutting her chops in the 1990’s singing in Berlin with a World Music Orchestra and jazz combos, and later through 2006 in Boston-based jazz, Brazilian pop groups, and her own combo, Gretchen also brings her past immersion both in Berlin’s techno and New York’s deep soulful house scene to the authentic mix of her eclectic, compelling music. Music is conscious, but also consciously engaging, funny, and never forgets a good groove.
