ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Through Time is the 10th studio by Grey. It covers songs that have been written in the past by Grey but not recorded and also new material. It begins in 1982 for the opening three songs. It jumps to 1989 for the next song. Then it's on to 1994 for two songs and 1996 for one. It continues to 2001 for the last of the past un-recorded songs. Grey has now recorded everything he has written with "Through Time". The remaining six songs are new songs from 2014. There are 13 videos made for these songs and they can be seen on the other Grey websites. Enjoy !

1982
The first three songs are from an early band I was in called Elixir. It was in the summer of 1982 that we wrote these three songs and many others but I only re-created these three as I felt they were some of the best we had written. The band was made up of David Brittain, Troy Griffin, Johnny Ludlow, Mike Matthews, and Greg Perkins. I don’t recall a lot about the song writing of these songs. I know Heaven’s Open and Through Time were very much group efforts but I recall The Mystic being an idea Johnny had and brought to the group. We did go into a studio at that time and record Through Time and a stripped-down version of Heaven’s Open called One Chance. I used the original of Through Time as a guide when I re-recorded it. For the other two songs I used old rehearsal tapes to help guide my arrangement. With time and technology I have hopefully improved and I have certainly improvised upon these three songs. I hope my old bandmates will be happy with the results of the new versions of these songs.

1989
While living in Germany and serving in the US Army I met another musician stationed with me named John Hill. He is no longer with us but I think he would be happy with the version of our song When The Light Goes Blue. We wrote other songs together but none that I felt were quality enough to record. This is due mainly to the fact that we were partying quite heavily when we wrote songs together.

1994
Not Much of a Person and Some Sad Situation were written while I was living in France. They were songs I started writing just after the Colours album (1993). I never completed them and so I finally felt I should.

1996
Stone Wall was another song I never finished. I suppose it would have been put on the Rock and Pop album (2002) if I had completed it. It is me projecting emotions onto an inanimate object. Again I wanted to complete it and since it is completed I can now say I have no songs out there that I have written and have not recorded.

2002
Hell Within was a song I wrote with Jason Harbour. Jason has been on many of my albums over the past 12 years. We finally decided to write something together. I told him I thought we could do a tribute song to Layne Staley as he had just died. I knew Jason was a bigger Alice in Chains fan than I was and so he wrote the music and I provided the lyrics. To make it fun for myself I tried to use as many AIC song titles in the writing of the lyrics so if you are an AIC fan you may catch that. Hell Within (Alternate Version) or Mikey’s version is one that is closer to what was originally written. The tempo is quicker and there is no middle 8th section. Mikey Harbour performed all the parts except for the solo and the vocals. So it really is his version. It is added as a special song at the end.

2013
Reach Around (The Reaper) once again had me teaming up with Jason Harbour to do a fun hard rock tune about the Reaper coming to take a soul. It is written from the Reaper’s point of view as he comes to Earth to do his job.

2014
The new songs begin at this point in the album. In Time, I Am, Une histoire d’amour and Unwound were all written over a six month period and finished in early 2014. I had in mind an acoustic song and it led to my writing an ending song for the album which is Finding My Way Back.
