George McDonald has been making a name for himself in the Los Angeles area for the past five years.

It was in the year 2000 that George's soul found its voice by way of the pen. George incorporates life experience, storytelling and his profound understanding of others into a tapestry of spoken word. His live performances evoke a range of responses from contagious laughter to pensive reflection and even arousal.

For those that know him, wisdom and balance are the words that are used most to describe George. It could be a mixture of his Libra nature and the "old soul" that powers his creativity.

In an effort to expose poetry to as many ears as possible, George often performs showcases for highshool students and community outreach workshops. He recently produced a show called "Wordz" which raised money for a local women's transitional living facility.

George has been featured at some of Los Angeles' premiere poetry venues. They include Da Poetry Lounge, BB King's, Do Boys Dozen Coffee House, Magic Johnson's Starbucks and The Hard Rock Café in New Orleans. McDonald's poetry has appeared in numerous publications, including Arnal Anthology: Poets without Limits. George also has several television appearances to his credit, most notably ABC's "Eye on LA" and NBC's "Starting Over". Currently he is the host of "Shine Thursdays" (Every Thursday 5664 W. 3rd Street) a weekly open mic venue at Cabrini's Jazz Alley in Los Angeles.

New Light Is Revealed On "The Eighth Day"
A cohesion of raw talent marks George McDonald's new spoken word CD "The Eighth Day". Realizing that his voice and words are the true stars of the show, McDonald seems to have entered a successful marriage of poetry, instrumentation and sound effects without crossing the line into overproduction. …

McDonald accomplishes a rare feat by infusing his work with confidence, understanding and wisdom while remaining free of any conceit or braggadocio. His pieces don't sound like a preacher talking at his congregation, but rather a man sharing experiences with his peers. Some of the skits on the CD are comprised of actual voicemail messages, some teasing, some praising, but all endearing George to the listener….

For those of us that miss the energy of his live performances, McDonald gives us an added treat. If you're very patient (about five minutes worth), "New Poem Today" opens up a trio of hidden/bonus tracks and proves to be one of the disc highlights. George's live demeanor comes through the speakers and the poem itself puts a smile on your face as you react with the audience…

Just A Fan

McDonald definitely has a way with words...
Maybe it's the jazz of "Searching", or the Hip-Hop of "Homie", possibly the cool of "I Could Be Pop". On the other hand it could be the sentiment of "Last Mourning", perhaps the warning of "Don't Do it ", or even the honest of "Feeling Kind of Low", no particular track makes this CD good. It just is. Each piece has its own unique personality which proves McDonald definitely has a way with words. It's like he touches you by putting inside the moment poem took place. That's where the magic happens, where the words come alive and the truth hits you.
