ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
THIS ALBUM IS NOW OUT OF PRINT. IT IS ONLY AVAILABLE AT A FEW NEWBURY COMICS STORES (in New England) AND THROUGH PAID DOWNLOAD SERVICES LIKE ITUNES, RHAPSODY, ETC.

Gruvis Malt started in 1995. For a brief time in 1999 it was considered a marketable band. Shortly after that, it ceased being marketable, and just became a band of the musicians, for the musicians, and by musicians. GM toured the country several times, most recently as Sage Francis' backup band and opener. Gruvis Malt has never done anything the easy way, and they don't intend to start now.

Fivel goes futurock
One of, if not the best CD I have heard all year. The influences heard on Simon are really all over the place, but it comes together beautifully. While it sounds somewhat familiar, it also sounds completely unlike anything you've ever heard, a needed breath of fresh air in today's music world. The tagline at the top of the page sums it up well. All in all this is some of GM's best work and is a very very enjoyable listen.

Every music fan should own a copy.
My favorite album to date. I haven't come across anything else as original as this in years. If you are sick of the same old sound, Gruvis Malt has something going here. There's a couple rap styled songs, some straight up GM style jazz, a couple rockish songs, but keeps a consistent mood and style and flows nicely. Recording sounds crisp and isn't over produced, so you get this great live feeling. You can really hear the insruments. Highly Reccommend.

Amazing.
Something that rarely exists these days: a band amazingly talented and creative. It could appeal to the masses, yet hardcore music analysts (myself and friends) can definately appreciate the complex things they pull off. With this album, their fourth (if you count their absolute first), they come with a sort of more relaxed and melodic taste, and also the textures are more diverse. The layering different melodies is very interesting sounding. It all adds up to an extremely well rounded album and one that you should definately purchase instead of the new U2 album.

Almost different from their former releases, Simon is that pop record that was never destined to pop.
Simon goes great with washing the dishes or vacuuming the house and when "Heart transplant..." plays you know its time to leave the house and chase some trim.

this album reclaims the term "original"
I've been into this band for a little over a year now. I found them because people were raving about them on a Mars Volta message board. Turns out they're better than Mars Volta. There, I said it. TMV has been my favorite band until now, but listening to this record for the umpteenth time, I can honestly say it has many more colors and ensemble appeal than the new TMV (though Frances is still kicking my ass). Gruvis Malt just puts music together different than any other band I've ever heard, and it's damn near time the world recognized it.
