Album Notes
Ms. Carolyn Ann "Gus" Hardin, the freewheeling, spirited, whisky-voiced singer, whose mixture of Blues, Rock, Gospel and Country typified the "Tulsa Sound" of the 1970's was killed in a tragic automobile accident in 1996. In the early 1980's, Gus signed a recording contract with RCA RECORDS in Nashville, where her soulful vocals were captured on three albums.

Gus Hardin's first RCA single, "After The Last Good-Bye" was a Top 10 Country hit in 1983, and several other singles from her albums reached the Top 40 over the next few years. She was named "Top New Country Artist" by "Billboard" magazine in 1983! A duet with fellow RCA Recording Artist Earl Thomas Conley, "All Tangled Up In Love" took her back to the upper reaches of the charts in 1984. That year, at the tender age of 39, Gus Hardin won the "Best New Female Vocalist" award from the "Academy of Country Music".

Rainy Day Records is co-owned by Sound City Entertainment Group, which is the parent company of the legendary "Sound City" recording studios located in Los Angeles. This album presents Gus and her music on Compact Disc for the first time and contains FIVE NEW RELEASES she had previously recorded at "Sound City", and also features the background vocals of Tulsa's Betsy Smittle, GARTH BROOKS' sister.

The album provides all of Gus Hardin's loyal fans the opportunity to preserve her voice for posterity on Compact Disc, as well as to expose a whole new generation of music fans to her incredible talent for the first time.

If you have never heard Gus Hardin sing before, then you MOST CERTAINLY need to buy this album! If you HAVE heard Gus sing before, then this is one album your record collection can not be without!!

I remember Gus
I remember going to see Gus who was also Cherokee, at all the Tulsa clubs like Joey's, Sunset Grill, etc. She had such a soulful voice and I have never heard anyone who sounds quite like her. She is greatly missed. I remember 1984 when she won Best New Country Artist. I watched it on t.v.

Betsy Smittle

I truly fell in love with Gus the first time I heard her sing.singing with her was a dream come true. She put heart and soul in me like no other.

I love this CD
I could listen to this CD over and over a million times. My favorite song is "I'm dancing as fast as I can". This is a must have CD for any Gus Hardin fan.

Wonderful, dear Gus...A great voice and a sweet soul
I enjoyed the music on this CD very much. It was great to hear the previously unreleased cuts Gus recorded before she passed. Her version of "Loving Arms" is a killer...and I thought "Foolproof" was a fun song. It was also great to hear some of her old RCA singles on CD. The production and choice of material were uniformly good and I'm glad I bought this CD. Now, if there are any other unreleased Gus Hardin cuts in your vaults, please think about putting them out on another album. Thank you!

Gone too soon...
What a voice. What a disc. Gus Hardin was way ahead of her time in so many aspects; we could only guess what heights she might have attained at this point. This disc is a great compilation of wonderful previously unreleased gems which have been mastered, engineered and mixed with such a freshness that they sound like they were recorded yesterday - plus some great Gus favorites, including the haunting title track which very well eulogizes the sorely missed and fondly remembered lady. Any recording of Gus Hardin is always welcome in my home - Rainy Day Records - keep 'em coming! And to Gus - rest in peace; we miss you.

Gus used to come and sit in with our band occasionally. We miss you Gus!
Gus Hardin was a "singer's singer". The CD I purchased, "I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can" is a great one for Gus fans!

she would be taking many top ranking music awards home
I think if Gus Hardin were singing today, she would be taking many top ranking music awards home. Her sound is so today. Her songs are songs that anyone can relate to. It saddens me to think that she is no longer here to sing many more songs as I know she would have if she were still here. I listen to "I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can" everyday, and the CD was very well put together.

Outstanding CD
Outstanding CD. Gus is sorely missed - was my best friend in high school and listening to this CD is like having her back!!

Such a great singer.
Such a tragic end for so talented a singer. I've have not been able to get "I PASS" out of my head for how long? 20 years? I had the FALLEN ANGEL album on vinyl(still do), but have not had a "record machine" for almost that long. Great song-excellant CD.
