ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Guy B was born in Israel to parents of Moroccan descent; at the age of 3 he immigrated to America. His last name, Baruch, means blessed in Hebrew. Guy spent his childhood in North Hollywood, CA, a city populated by nearly every race, creed, color, nationality and religion. In addition, his Jewish upbringing and strong family traditions allowed for a truly unique and diverse perspective on life and people.

His interest in music was first sparked by hearing the greatest voices and songwriters of his generation, including Whitney Houston, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke and Mariah Carey. With a desire to make people feel the way these amazing musicians made him feel when he heard them, Guy created his own unique style: inspired by soul music while infusing a middle eastern global sound featuring pop elements with R&B/Hip Hop.

Defining his early experiences in the music industry, Guy helped form and became the lead singer in a group called EVOLUTION. The band reflected the diversity he appreciated while growing up in North Hollywood. Writers, arrangers, and producers of their own material, EVOLUTION began touring Northern California before embarking on a nine-month tour of Japan. They had a permanent gig at Universal Studios in Osaka, playing five sold-out shows a week, captivating Japanese fans.

Upon returning from Japan, the band members decided that Evolution had reached an end. On his own now, Guy B built the recording studio that he had long envisioned and began writing and recording an independent record that was honest and sincerely represented his journey. In his solo debut record, WITHIN ME, Guy B captures and celebrates the struggles, joys, love, loss, fear, and sexual expression of the human condition.

Guy B executive produced and helped conceptualize his debut music video. The choreographer and the director of the video for “Within Me”, the CD's title track, have choreographed and/or co-directed both Madonna and Pink’s most recent tours. The “Within Me” video was on rotation on the MTV Logo Network for 15 weeks and held strong as one of the top 10 video on MTV Logo for over 12 weeks in 2007.

A big fan of dance remixes, Guy B collaborated with superstar DJ Manny Lehman on a magnificent dance remix to his CD title track “Within Me”. Manny Lehman has remixed hits for the likes of Janet Jackson and Madonna. Guy has also teamed up with DJ Scotty K who has remixed several songs on Guy B’s upcoming release, WITHIN ME REMIXED. Scotty K reached #1 on the Billboard dance chart two times for his remixes of “Just Fine” by Mary J Blige and Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man”. The "Within Me" remix video is currently #1 on MTV/Logo's The Click List.

Before recently returning from an 8 week solo tour in Japan, Guy B was performed for a cause he believes in strongly. He joined the likes of Justin Timberlake and Wyclef Jean raising money and benefiting music education for youth through the Macy Gray Music School Academy. Currently, Guy is producing a charity event in Hollywood, CA that raises money for organizations such as LifeWorks which provides mentoring for LGBT youth.

Guy B has also opened up for Deborah Cox at the Empire Ball Room in Las Vegas, was the opening act for the Weho Awards at The Avalon in Hollywood CA, and was the headliner for Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska's Pride. He has been featured in numerous publications including NoiZ Magazine, Outlook Magazine and over 20 online publications.

Within Me is surprisingly good
When people buy CDs that don't come out in stores, they think it's going to be a somewhat bootleg version of what they should be hearing. For example, Guy B's album, WITHIN ME, was supposed to be a sort of low budget demo that had one stand out track in it. But I was wrong! I gave this guy a chance after hearing a great single of his called "Within Me" and once I bought the cd from cdbaby.com, I was hooked!

First of all, this guy can blow. He has vocals reminiscent of Boys II Men and you could hear a little bit of Mariah Carey influence in there, especially in ballads such as "Match For My Wing" and "Unemotional Love," which are one of the few songs here that must be put on repeat. The songs aren't really different from one another so it's hard to connect to each song differently but Guy B's lyrical content may remind you of Alanis Morissette's smart outlooks and $100 similes.

The catchiest cut here is "Illusion to Form," which starts out with finger snaps then forming into a sort of European kind of pop. Finger snaps, European instruments, Guy B's vocals. What else do you need?

Other than the sort of boring start off that begins with "Invisible Wisdom," WITHIN ME is a great start for Guy B. None of the songs here are necessarily bad or to be skipped. It's just that some might need a bit of time to grow on you. Guy B's debut album deserves a fair shot but it sure passes fair... by an inch.

Best Tracks: #1, #2, #5 through #10
