Album Notes

My name is Guy Roberts and I’m a singer/songwriter from Farnham, Surrey in England

The first thing I ask myself while writing a song is “Does the world need this song?”

The answer is "Yes, it does."

I wrote this while I was living in Manchester in 2001. It was the Christmas after 9/11 and I was listening to a lot of BBC Talk Radio to keep me company as I was alone that Christmas. (long story) It appeared that the word “Christmas” had been abolished and instead everybody was using the term “Holiday Season” so as not to be too “Christian” and to provoke further attacks by other religions. The news was reporting Earthquakes in Afghanistan and the progress of the “War Against Terror” at regular intervals and then it would be "Happy Holiday Seasons” all-round, again.

I kept missing releasing it in time for Xmas, (13 times in all!) and had finally started recording it on November 3rd. I emailed a friend at the Orchestra on the 7th to ask her to play classical harp on the track, then Paris happened.

We quickly finished the song and put the lyrics up on YouTube. Sadly the song has regained all of it’s relevance. Why haven’t we learned?
