Album Notes
GUYS ON ICE has been performed in California, Oregon, New York, West Virginia, North Dakota, Massachusetts and Michigan, in addition to hundreds of sold-out performances throughout Wisconsin.

The composer of GUYS ON ICE is JAMES KAPLAN. A New Jersey native, James wrote the music for such American Folklore Theatre hits as LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS, THE BACHELORS, GUYS ON ICE and LUMBERJACKS IN LOVE. His music also appears in PACKER FANS FROM OUTER SPACE, BONE DANCE, BELGIANS IN HEAVEN and YA YA YOU BETCHA! James also arranged the music for several AFT revues - GOODNIGHT IRENE, HARVEST MOON, OLD FRIENDS and SWEET BABY JAMES. He is currently at work on two new musicals, one with long-time AFT company member Laurie Flanigan, and one with Chicago writer Dave Hudson.

The Book and Lyrics of GUYS ON ICE were written by the late Fred Alley. Fred was the co-founder of American Folklore Theatre in Door County, Wisconsin, where he created dozens of shows. He was the original Lloyd in GUYS ON ICE and his beautiful voice is heard on this CD. Fred also wrothe the musical THE SPITFIRE GRILL, (with James Valcq) which premiered at Playwrights Horizons in New York in 2001. His shows are being performed regularly all across the United States.

CD was a gift for mother-in-law. She loves it.
We went to the Guys on Ice show and my mother-in-law wanted to get the CD and I talked her out of it because I wanted to get it for her for Christmas. Thanks a bunch for sending it so fast. She loves it and so do we.

Great show, great music, lots of laughs!
Anyone considering doing this show as a production should listen the the cd. Anyone who has seen the show should purchase this cd for a wonderful reminder of a terrific show.

Fun, offbeat show
An ice fishing musical? A show about two guys in a hut on the ice? The best Wisconsin musical ever? Surprise, both the show and songs are pretty good.

Sure it's a little cornball with terse men (in the Lake Wobegon tradition) and lots of ice fishing jokes, but it's also clever, fresh, with fun, listenable songs, many of which have a depth and sweetness as unexpected parallels are drawn between ice fishing and life. The CD is not just the songs, it's (most of) the show. It was recorded during a performance so you hear the audience laughing at the jokes making it more fun. Recommended.

Minor quibble -- the CD description and liner notes claim it is the whole show, but I recently saw the show at a local theater in its New England premier and the beginning of the second act (circa 2007) is missing from the CD.

Songs are catchy, entire play with dialogue is included
This CD is the entire play, including dialogue. The tracks are not set up as 1.Dialogue 2.Song 3. Dialogue 4. Song -- it's 1. Dialogue until we get to the song, including song. 2. Dialogue, then song, then dialogue. 3. Song, then dialogue.

This is the original cast, and does not include the song for which I purchased the CD, something like "10 Beers Left in the 12-pack, 8 hours left in the day". That was disappointing. This song must have been added at some later date. I saw the musical when it was playing at in Minneapolis in 2004.

Nontheless, the CD is clear, and the lyrics are easy to understand. It is a live performance and so contains all of the energy and problems associated with that. Simple good fun.
