Album Notes
Wolf Song is a collaborative effort of many creative minds created initially in support of Wolfwood Refuge near Ignacio, Colorado.  This refuge is one of a number of refuges that accept wolves and wolf dogs that cannot live in the wild, are not accepted by animal shelters or that would die from starvation or being shot by people afraid of them.  There are 10 songs written specifically for this project. This labor of love was begun after long time friend Jaqui Jacobs introduced Charlie Stacey of Gypsyfire to Paula Watson, the operator of WolfWood Refuge, and he learned of the work done there. Jaqui & Charlie realized the CD would be a way to volunteer in a sustaining fundraising project and Steve Sprague and the rest of the band joined in. Then friends from other bands offered help and yet other friends volunteered to help with everything from writing press releases to proofreading copy and listening to the emerging music during the recording process and a CD is created. Gypsyfire is the musical brainchild of Charles Stacey and his partner in crime and life, Cynthia Whiddon Green. Since 1995 they have fused original narrative folk, traditional and original Celtic, Appalachian, New Age, Blues and Jazz to tell stories of special people and the places they inhabit. The ultimate goal of this musical conversation is to create a community without boarders or walls, encourage other performers to find their unique voice and to support causes in need of a voice. Over the years they have been joined by an impressive array of talented and dedicated musicians from around the country who have joined in the conversation. The last three CD's over the past three years owe a great deal to Steve Sprague who has become the latest partner pretty much full time partner in this creative endeavor. This is the 11th CD under the Gypsyfire banner.
