Album Notes
“I really enjoyed Gypsy Soul’s TRUE. They are a truly unique sound. Cilette takes “Hallelujah" to a new place.”
-Aaron Neville

"Roman’s fluid guitar embraces Cilettes’ soulful vocals as they forge a musical journey of deep questions, curiosities and illuminations. True is finely-spun gold.”
-Sue Ennis, Heart and The Lovemongers

"Cilette Swann's voice is haunting and Roman Morykit's musicianship is superb. Their music stirs the soul and moves the spirit." - Monica Rizzo, PEOPLE Magazine

”Four stars.” “...Catchy, folk-based pop/rock songs with inventive arrangements suggested what a second Buckingham Nicks LP might have sounded like if Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had not joined Fleetwood Mac.” - ALL MUSIC GUIDE

“Authentic” is the word most frequently used to describe GYPSY SOUL and their music. They are a duo with an intimacy that comes through clearly, attracting listeners with their unique blend of Roots Rock, Pop, Blues & Jazz and a DIY back story every bit as compelling.

"A musical marriage that spans the globe, a self-invented, organic sound that has roots in rock and soul, country, folk and blues ... with vocals and lyrics intertwined like a pair of life-long partners inspiring others to follow their dreams." — Hits Daily Double Magazine, Roy Trakin

You’ve heard of crowd funding a CD, but what about an entire career? Gypsy Soul has cultivated and nurtured an audience of life-long fans, not simply via their musical excellence, but because of their dedication to all aspects of their craft. Their humble story as immigrants combined with their unwavering passion, work ethic and approachability, has garnered Gypsy Soul’s, Cilette Swann (US/CAN) and Roman Morykit (UK), a permanent place in the hearts of their fans.

The exchange that has come from these relationships has inspired their loyal supporters to donate over $81,000 for different CD projects. In fact, the duo's entire 19-year, professional music career has been mostly funded (save a few licensing deals and number of TV/film uses) by the continued patronage of fans to over one thousand of their live shows.

Perhaps their music is best described as, “Gypsy Soul is gourmet music for music lovers,” shared on the air at K-LOS Radio in Los Angeles, California.

Like its creators, their music is much like fine fusion cuisine; Italian, Irish, South African and Ukrainian to be precise. As with any work of art, their music is born from heartache and struggle, love and determination brewing with many layers, textures and flavors. Their message is both universal and intimate, familiar yet otherworldly.

Their sound is a true culmination of the very best of both Cilette and Roman's tastes, experiences and cultures. Morykit, Gypsy Soul’s producer shares that he feels True is their most unique CD to date as it is a combination of both a live and studio record. "We like to call it a performance record as we limited ourselves to one or two takes in to keep the performances fresh,” states Morykit.

British-born Morykit, is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer whose musical roots dig back to his childhood training in classical piano. In the early 90s, after several years in London as a highly sought-after studio musician and fretless bassist for the emerging band Raising Cain (with whom Roman was signed to A&M Records,) he relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland to pursue new musical opportunities.

There he met Canadian-born singer/lyricist, Cilette Swann, who had also recently relocated to Edinburgh after years of traveling in Europe and spending time in Paris, singing with famed French jazz artist, Alain Mion. The two began writing and recording together and quickly fell in love. Love lead to marriage, marriage lead to relocating to Hollywood, and while in Hollywood, Gypsy Soul was born.

Enticing but never predictable, the duo mixes every influence they love, creating the familiar sound that is exclusively Gypsy Soul –Roots Rock, Pop, Blues & Jazz. Over the years they have produced 13 independent CDs and although there is always a through-line with Morykit’s rich orchestrations and Swann’s captivating lyrics and near 4-octave vocal range, you will never hear two songs alike.

Gypsy Soul has had a Top 40 hit at Adult Contemporary radio with “Silent Tears,” and a number of other songs in the Top 5 on many other radio charts. In almost two decades as professional recording and touring artists, they've won numerous independent music awards, including the Independent Music Awards, International Acoustic Music Awards, Just Plain Folks and honors at Lilith Fair.

"Sensuous is the word when it comes to the dramatic soundscapes that emerge at the convergence of Cilette Swann's lush vocals and Roman Morykit's textured bass and guitar arrangements."
"A gorgeous mix of rich female folk, pop, jazz with touches of bluegrass. This is highly enriched folk that nourishes the dried up gardens of the soul."
“Morykit is the mastermind here, building a lush musical landscape around his tasteful fretless lines, over which Cilette’s angelic soprano soars.”

Best yet!
We have followed Gypsy Soul for over 15 years, and always look forward to the next new album.
"True" has taken their music to a new level.... I can't get enough of it!
Cilette's vocals are stronger and better than ever, and Roman's guitar work along with a fabulous production quality makes this album really shine.
A MUST for any music collection!

This album sparkles with creativity and depth, truer than true!
I'm a music fan, but I'm not a fan of most music. When an album of this calibre comes along, I want to tell the world about it. Cilette Swann's voice is astonishing, it has it all, does it all, and with such clarity and devotion to the notes and lyrics that you can't help but be bowled over and carried away by it. Sometimes angelic, sometimes raw, sometimes pure power, always a thrill. Roman Morykit's musicianship is evident throughout, adding just the right bass line, guitar lyric or harmony on every track. This album sparkles with creative passion and range, and delivers on it's promise. Truer than 'True'!

Your new, favorite group!!
What can I say except “BUY THIS ALBUM”!!! Year after year, album after album, Gypsy Soul continues to grace us with their gifts. From Cilette Swann’s elegant vocals to Roman Morykit’s instrumentation and production, they once again demonstrate their top rank skills. But who am I to rate them this high? Just a fan. Need support of my comments? Here are some my favorites quotes:

“I really enjoyed Gypsy Soul's True! They are a truly unique sound. Cilette takes Hallelujah to a new place!” - Aaron Neville

"Cilette Swann's voice is haunting and Roman Morykit's musicianship is superb. Their music stirs the soul and moves the spirit." - Monica Rizzo, PEOPLE MAGAZINE

'FOUR STARS.' "Morykit plays an array of guitars and keyboards, coming up with an evocative style of folk-rock that supports Swann's singing of romantic lyrics to catchy melodies, her voice not so much suggestive of Nicks as of a cross between Joni Mitchell and Heart's Ann Wilson." - ALL MUSIC, William Rhulmann

"The pair have a truly enchanting sound, mesmerizing and soul-striking. Think of them as a world music version of Sarah McLachlan." - SEATTLE TIMES

“Gypsy Soul; a deep and unique bond both musically and spiritually. Haunting and beautiful.” - BOB BLACKBURN, Westwood One Radio Networks

So, buy True! and if you don't have them, buy their back catalog, every album is worth it. Looking for Holiday music?? They've got you covered there as well with their Amazing Grace and Sacred albums. Then if you really want to treat yourself, go see them live. They are two of the most honest, real and beautiful people that you'll ever meet.

Review of True
Any discussion of today’s finest female vocalists must include Cilette Swann. And no one who has heard any of the brilliant Gypsy Soul’s entrancing albums would disagree. If you’re unfamiliar with this dynamic musical duo, the new album, “True,” is truly the perfect place to begin. Swann’s voice dazzles from the opening notes onward. She’s a revelation. Versatile and often acrobatic, without ever seeming forced or disingenuous, she will keep you enthralled throughout. She can convincingly deliver her poetically crafted lyrics with powerful passion or sensuous subtlety. When she suddenly floats into the uppermost regions of her remarkable range, she’ll take your breath away. The twosome weaves touching sounds, reflecting pop, jazz, blues and Americana flavors. “Your Kind” is delicate, disarming and delicious. “Gotta Be Real” starts with a rock edge and, in the middle, soars with horns and harmonies that come as exhilarating surprises. “Mirabelle” is another gem. The intricate melodies achieve emotional resonance. The duo’s interpretations of “Hallelujah” and “Amazing Grace” are astonishingly fresh and filled with poignancy. Arrangements and instrumentation, guided with the insights of Swann’s intuitive and talented partner, composer/multi-instrumentalist Roman Morykit, are beautifully understated and impeccably complementary, allowing the vocals to hold their much deserved place in the spotlight.
