ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album was conceived when Cash and I first met in Berlin in 2014. We were both busking at the same pitch when I first heard him sing, and tI had the strongest impulse to write songs with him.
We first bonded over Aussie Rock icons Divynls, and later explored our passions for Motown, the Jackson 5, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince and Jeff Buckley, as well as contemporary pop music, and my favourite experimental artists Camille and Björk.

We found we had voracious appetites for all kinds of music, and we could suddenly, together, explore so much more than either of us had ever done before. We were writing songs that were so varied in style that we actually had to leave some off the album for the sake of cohesion. We started with a classic blues song, which became Bittersweet, and Tonight, which was originally a sketch for an EDM tune. Desert Song was written on a camel in Rajasthan, and Wild was a song celebrating my teenage years, written in my bedroom in the lush subtropics of Nimbin NSW.

By the time we had really cemented our sound, we had also become a couple, and the album was recorded and mixed whilst I was pregnant with Cello. He would dance along inside my belly as we edited the takes in the studio in southern Spain, and I fancy we will always feel connected to these songs that he heard so many times in utero.

Being pregnant changed my voice a little, it relaxes the muscles and made it somewhat breathier and softer. It was hard to not be able to belt the things that I felt needed to be belted, but like so many other things in our lives, I had to accept and surrender to the moment. A record is just that; a record of the moment and all its beauty and imperfection is contained therein. All our love and joy, struggle and learning is wrapped up in this bundle. Is it cute? We think so, but we are probably biased. You´ll have to make up your own mind.
