Album Notes
Rooted in folk, blues, country, rock and gypsy musical styles, these delightful and thought provoking songs by Hollis Wayne and the Happy Horse Band will transport you to magical worlds. Hollis, writing in collaboration with her friend and fellow artist Dean Cardwell, stepped off the bridle path that she previously explored at breakneck speed and into a new, bolder universe of adventure tales.

The Gypsy Trilogy of romantic tunes in the center of the album (WILD GYPSY WOMEN, BANGLES OF GOLD, WARRIOR QUEENS) dances through myth and legend, telling the tale of how the best musician usually gets the most adventurous girl, who then must test him! Gleefully inspired by 30 years of vivid memories of living like a 20th century wild gypsy woman on the road (while producing & selling her tile & tee shirt artwork at Renaissance Faires and street shows across the USA), they're sure to enchant and make you want to dance & whirl! Hollis's earthy powerhouse voice -- likened to a young Cher by some listeners -- weaves new tales of young love and daunting escapades, personal impatience (SWEET SHORTCUT) and unacknowledged ineptitude (DADDY'S ON THE SHORT END), as well as timeless quests for treasure & glory by fearless warrior queens who dare to do battle with snow demons and mountaintop wolf kings, aided by a princess's mighty champion and his secret weapon!

Truly original music fuses different styles into an unexpected and uniquely bright sound of voices and a few instruments. The album title "Beneath the Flower Moon" is a line from BANGLES OF GOLD about where the young hero finds his true love, is a fun and energetic listen. And catchy! Very catchy choruses and descriptive verse poetry will have you singing along to these stories in no time, as you cruise your world of highways and work time pursuits, providing every listener with a brief and pleasant respite from reality! "If only we could fly, as fast as light itself!" is an echo of our universal childhood wish for wings and the wind to take us on fantastical journeys: STARSHIP is pure escapism, to other times and distant galaxies. MOON PONIES' sweet restraint hints that things may be other than they seem to earthly eyes, although the exhortation to "Take some time for Magic, and Love!" is an easy truth for all who care to hear.

Hollis Wayne and the Happy Horse Band, pared down to an essential trio this time, have honed the sound of kazoo and harmonica, light harmonies, fabulous guitar picking and percussion for this offering of their latest and most unusual tunes.
John Dunn on acoustic guitar and bass along with Pete Langhans on drums, bongos, kazoo and tambourine bring an elemental spareness to this new collection. Both sing tasty backup vocals that add depth and charm.

Former band member D.B. Rouse produced the recording, added decorative musical elements and mixed the music. Beaux Graham lent his technical experience, gobs of gear and great ears to the engineering process that captured these sounds at the band's home studio. The sound is pleasing and melodic, unusual, energetic and positive. "Impossible to have a bad day while listening to this music!" is how one long time fan put it.

Hollis again invites you into her special world, as illustrated by verse and voices, poetry and percussion, guitar and harmonica, with a dash of kazoo! Start the music, close your eyes and TURN IT UP! Enjoy the trip!
