ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Happy Little Clouds is a Boston-based indie rock band whose songs will stick with you rain or shine. The band’s unfiltered, heartfelt lyrics are layered over bluesy vocals, a vintage rock sound, and catchy melodies. On their debut album, "Shift," premiering July 9, 2016 and produced, recorded and mixed by Portland, ME legend Jonathan Wyman, Happy Little Clouds captures the emotional roller coaster of discovering love and lust while on the journey for inner truth and that brief nostalgic moment that strikes just before everything changes forever. Hop in and join them for the ride, and don’t touch the radio dial.

Jac Mestel (Vocals, guitar)
Alex Toorish (Drums, percussion)
Kelly Vaden (Bass)

Special thanks to Amanda Huff and Emily Martin for help with
claps and stomps on “Beneath” and “Somebody Help Me Forget.”

BENEATH

Foggy the world does look
When hiding in the sheets
You got a world outside
And I hide underneath

You gotta run in time
To find out what you need
You got a treasure map?
I’m buried far beneath

Buried far beneath
Buried far beneath
Buried far beneath

Beneath, beneath, beneath, yeah
Beneath, beneath, yeah
Beneath, beneath, beneath, yeah
Beneath, beneath, yeah

Pulsing of the Earth
Bursting with the spring
Surely as the winter dies
Summer solstice sings

Pulsing of the Earth
Bursting with the spring
Surely as the winter dies
Summer solstice sings

Silently stuck am I
Just waiting with the seed
Come down and drench my soul
With knowledge and relief

Making it up until
It turns into belief
Only one way to go
When buried far beneath

Buried far beneath
Buried far beneath
Buried far beneath

Beneath, beneath, beneath, yeah
Beneath, beneath, yeah
Beneath, beneath, beneath, yeah
Beneath, beneath, yeah

Pulsing of the Earth
Bursting with the spring
Surely as the winter dies
Summer solstice sings

Pulsing of the Earth
Bursting with the spring
Surely as the winter dies
Summer solstice sings

DON’T TURN ME ON

Oh little girl, You got away from yourself
You were red as your lips tonight
Don’t tell me no Cause you’ve awoken the beast
And it’s too late to change your mind

Don’t turn me
Don’t turn me on
Don’t turn me
Don’t turn me on
Cause you know what happens

Well I’m a thing That’s goin’ bump in the dark
When your eyes can’t adjust In the black after dusk
So hold me down I can’t escape from the sound
Of your lips when they pressed against mine

Don’t turn me
Don’t turn me on
Don’t turn me
Don’t turn me on
Cause you know what happens

You can tell me That it’s just too much to take
But you can’t tell me That my heart no longer breaks
Even winds and fires And oceans stay awake
And I refuse to leave your mind

Oh little girl, You got away from yourself
You were red as your lips tonight
Tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight

FOOL

You don’t even touch me anymore
I feel rejected, yeah, I feel unsure
You can’t possibly get how I feel
You don’t see that I need time To heal from you

Try to keep my mind from thinking it
But there she is at the local market
Drawing her pictures And you barely mask it
I keep your pillow Cause you still ask it of me

But it’s not fair, and it’s not right
That you still keep me Locked to your shadow
Where no one else sees
All the marks that you left on me
Are fading away, but I’m still here
Trying to find something new
While I’m stuck here
Following you like a fool

I don’t mean to state the obvious
And I know you don’t see What all the fuss is
But when the options are torture or hell
I’ll take the beating knowing at least you are well

And yes I do have trouble letting go,
But now I’ve given up all my control
And how will I get out
From under your rule
An iron thumb
Will never release a fool

But it’s not fair, and it’s not right
You get comfort
In someone else’s arms
Then you come home to me

I get loneliness, I get nothing
But the fact that you’re alive
And I’m the selfish one?
No I am the fool

Blame it all, blame it all,
Blame it all on me
Yeah, blame it all, blame it all,
Blame it all on me
Yeah, blame it all, blame it all,
Blame it all on me
Why don’t you blame it all,
Blame it all, blame it all on me

Let’s break the cycle,
Stop it in its tracks
I have no solution, you’ll never budge
I’ve got to find something new,
Get out of here
And stop shadowing you like a fool

GONE

How much can we take?
How long ‘til we break?
How? How could I know
We’d have so little time
But so many minutes to grow?

Why don’t you
Take what you want from me?
Oh, you think you can handle me?
Well, you best find yourself
A new lover
Cause, baby, you’re wrong
Baby, you’re wrong

What more can we do?
Let time pass through?
And while your waiting
Find somebody else
Don’t latch on to me
Cause I want to be by myself

Oh, just take what you want from me
Oh, you think you’re in love with me
Well, put one foot
In front of the other
And baby you’re gone
Baby you’re gone

For who do you stay?
I’m spent for the day
And I don’t remember
How things got so far
I stopped listening
We just can’t defend who we are

You just had the last piece of me
So there’s no possibility
That we’ll find ourselves
In each other
Baby we’re through
Baby we’re through

SOMEBODY HELP ME FORGET

I get the feeling
You’ve been wasting my time,
But I can’t for the life of me stop
You’d be right if you said I was stupid
I’ll skirt that cause I hear it a lot

Can we help it
If we’re desperate and lonely?
Everybody just wants to be loved
God, I’m praying hard
That I’m not the only one left
Somebody help me forget

I get the feeling
That there’s no time to lose,
But I can’t for the life of me start
You’d be right if you said I was crazy,
I’ll ignore it cause I might fit the part

Can we help it
If we’re tired and jealous?
Everybody just wants someone close
God I’m praying hard
That I’m not the only one left
Somebody help me forget

I get the feeling
That it’s time to get up,
But I can’t for the life of me move
You’d be right if you said I was lazy
I’ll pretend that
I’ve got nothing to prove

Can we help it
If we’re dying of boredom?
Everybody just wants a cheap thrill
God I’m praying hard
That I’m not the only one left
Somebody help me forget

I get the feeling
You’ve been wasting my time,
But I can’t for the life of me stop
You’d be right
If you said I was stupid,
I’ll skirt that cause I hear it a lot

Can we help it
If we’re desperate and lonely?
Everybody just wants to be loved
God I’m praying hard
That I’m not the only one left
Somebody help me forget

LEAVE IT UP

Steer your boat
For the passengers
Bored of their country
Hear them quote
Maudlin words
They can find for themselves

Check your coat,
But make use
Of that baggage you carry
Clear your throat
But of course,
Ya got nothing to say

So, leave it up, just leave it up,
Leave it up to me
Leave it up, just leave it up
Leave it up to me, yeah

Sip your wine
But make way
For the movers and shakers
Take your time
Well, it’s not like we’re waiting for you

You may find
You’ve been rolling around
In the breakers
Can’t you try
Climbing out to an infinite blue

Or leave it up, just leave it up
Leave it up to me
Leave it up, just leave it up
Leave it up to me, yeah

Take it on
Or your life may be lulling behind you
‘Til you’re gone
And have nothing to show for it all

Don’t leave it up, don’t leave it up
Leave it up to me
Leave it up, don’t leave it up
Leave it up to me

MOONFADE

Thought I felt you next to me
Getting lost in ecstasy
When we touched so tenderly
But what you get is what you see
What you see

Moon fading slow
You had to go

Where you face is light you bring
Touching down on everything
I make out the words you sing
But in the dark I’m hearing things

Moon waning high
You say goodbye

How you used to light my way
Helped me find the words to say
Hold me close ‘til break of day
Until our dreams must fade away
Fade away

Moon setting fast
Time make it last

I want to drown in your light
Falls far, shines bright
I want to drown in your light
Falls far, shines bright

I want to drown in your light
Falls far, shines bright
I want to drown in your light
Falls far, shines bright

False fire shines bright
Falls far, shines bright
False fire shines bright

Indie Rockers Happy Little Clouds Host Charitable Release Party for Debut Album Shift

Boston, Massachusetts — June 21, 2016 — Boston-based indie rockers Happy Little Clouds take the stage at O’Brien’s Pub in Boston, MA on Saturday, July 9, 2016 to mark the release of their debut album, Shift. Already a staple in the Boston music club circuit, Shift marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band.

“We took songs that we had been playing for years and some new ones, too, and melded them together with a lot feeling, passion and focus,” says lead singer/guitarist Jac Mestel. “To me, the album feels like the anticipation and build up of emotions that overwhelm you just before something really big happens and you know nothing will ever be the same.”
The release party will also feature other Boston-based bands, poetry, live art, and an art auction benefiting the Girls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB). Bands include The Rationales, PowerSlut, and 2016 Rock and Roll Rumble contestants, The Knock Ups. Alex Charalambides and Nicholas Earl Davis, hosts of Worcester’s “The Dirty Gerund Poetry Show,” will perform poetry between music and act as emcees and auctioneers for the night. Featured live artists include Dug McCormack, Amber Tortorelli and Leilani Roser.

With its bluesy vocals, rocking guitars, and catchy melodies, Shift sets the energy from the band’s live performances against the passionately sung lyrics of Mestel’s songwriting. Mestel drew inspiration from her personal journey discovering a queer identity –– and love and heartbreak along the way –– to craft songs that are honest and unfiltered.

“These songs have been my outlet for so many years and this album is the culmination of that. It represents all the angst and frustration and also all the self-discovery, love, and loss I’ve felt up to this point in life. Pretty relatable stuff,” says Mestel.

Shift was recorded over five days at The Halo, a converted barn outside Portland, Maine. Mestel says she chose the studio, after hearing about it from a mutual friend of producer Jonathan Wyman and learning that one of her favorite local New England bands, When Particles Collide, had recorded there.

On Saturday, July 9, Happy Little Clouds will release, Shift, the band’s first studio album, in one jam-packed show. The event will raise money for GRCB while bringing together the local music, art and poetry scenes. The band hopes the night will inspire future collaborations among Boston’s talented artist communities.

The first track of the album, “Beneath” was released as a single for digital download on June 21. Shift will be available for purchase and download on July 9, 2016. Those who donate $10 or more to GRCB at the show will get the album for free. For more information about Happy Little Clouds, visit happylittleclouds.com.

Happy Little Clouds formed in 2010 and have performed across New England, including at the Hartford, CT leg of the 2012 Warped Tour and at Boston area venues, including: The Middle East, TT the Bears, Precinct, The Cantab, The Midway Cafe, PA’s Lounge, The Lily Pad, and many others. The band’s most recent performance was at Porchfest in Somerville, MA.
