by Mark Harrington

Alt-rock that's fluid, but not acid. Mysterious like Peter Murphy; observant like XTC; witty like Morrissey, and sentimental like Billy Bragg.

Album Notes
Mark Harrington began releasing indie recordings in the late 80s, drawing comparisons to David Bowie, & Peter Murphy. His 3rd CD release, Alter, brings his version of modern rock into a more mellow focus, but the social criticism and politics are still here amid the ballads!

The production focus on the Alter CD is smoother: 12-string acoustic guitars outnumber the distorted electrics, but both are present, and balance is the result.

As a long-time fan of Mark Harrington's work, I was pleased to hear the latest offering from this Toronto artist. Mark has really mixed up the beats on this album, lots of different tempos and crisp production offer a truly listenable experience. Anyone who lists Morrissey, Billy Bragg, Peter Murphy and XTC as influences is a-okay in my books. It's great to hear old gems like Onlookers and October Traveller. I can hardly wait for a Mark Harrington Best of... compilation. I'm sure it's in the works, in the meantime, keep writing those great songs!

Harrington produces another True to Alternative Release...
Mark has retained his alternative roots and produced yet another album of true creativity. Despite a world filled with Justin Timberlake/Timbaland produced uber-product, Mark has kept it fresh, new and in no need of hiding behind the technology, but instead uses it to enhance his melodic and harmonic genius. From the multi-layered melodic build of of the first track Sometimes to the last track fun of Known Incompatibility (a track that dares to ask - What if Peter Murphy WAS a rasta on the chronic? This album is complicated, challenges current convention in production and yet still finds room to relate to all of us. Another winner Mr. Harrington, and another winner for Alt Rock.
