River Called Night

New Age Folk with a unique, classical twist. Strings, piano and guitar join forces with the haunting, pure voice of this former Texan. Unforgettable and poetic.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Carla was born in Waxahachie Texas, a farming community south of Dallas. A child prodigy, she began formal piano lessons at the age of four, and made her first two recordings at thirteen, leading to a tour of Israel and Greece. Growing up performing Rachmaninoff and Bach, on weekends she sang in a Baptist choir and listened to the Grand Ole Opry (her father played steel guitar). All of these influences eventually blended together to make Carla's New Age Folk sound completely her own. Carla has performed in the U.S. and Canada, most recently in Jacksonville, Florida. A published poet ("The Invisible Moon" and "Fire Never Sleeps") she's given readings at the Glenn Gould Studio, Canada's National Library in Ottawa, and for the International Author's Festival in Montreal. Carla also plays a vintage Oscar Schmidt autoharp when a piano isn't available!

Norm Hacking says "Listen to this music, it's beautiful and different." The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has recently sent a copy of Carla's CD to each of its' radio affiliates. CITY-TV filmed Carla's performance at the Textile Museum in January 2001, where she wrote music to celebrate their 25th Anniversary.

Now Ben Ohmart has posted a strong review on the Muse's News, excerpts of which appear below:
"The music, production and orchestration are just as clean, smooth, bubbly as the words from the opening 'River Called Night'. And when the music equals the beautiful words? Man, you've got something there."
