ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Come Rain or Come Shine by
Havilah and Triple Play

Havilah - Vocals
Havilah Bruders, a classically trained musician from a singing family, claims the Golden Age of Jazz and Swing as the soundtrack to her life. A versatile and soulful Kansas City vocalist, Havilah performs a variety of genres as though each were her sole focus. Her ability with jazz interpretation and her love affair with swing and Delta blues makes her one of Kansas City’s favorite singers. Havilah and her husband, Kris Bruders, also host Here’s to the Roots, a local weekly musician appreciation showcase at Ollie’s Local in Kansas City.

Triple Play is a Kansas City based band composed of Rod Fleeman on guitar, John Blegen on clarinet and saxophones, and James Albright on bass and keyboard.

Rod Fleeman has been a professional guitarist for over 30 years. Following his studies at the University of Miami, Rod moved to New York City where he toured and recorded extensively with the jazz fusion group Dry Jack. Since returning to Kansas City in 1981, he has toured and recorded with such artists as Marilyn Maye, Karrin Allyson, Jay McShann, Claude Williams and Interstring. Rod currently serves on the staff at the University of Missouri - Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance and the Kansas City Kansas Community College.

John Blegen has played swing and traditional jazz for over fifty years in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee, and, for the last five years, Kansas City. While in Chicago, he was the regular clarinetist in the Chicago Cubs Dixieland Band for five years. In 2014, he released his first CD, “This ‘n’ That,” featuring a number of fine Kansas City musicians. He appears regularly at the Majestic Restaurant in Kansas City with the Bram Wijnands Trio and at Chaz on the Plaza with guitarist Rod Fleeman.

James Albright has a Music degree from the University of Nebraska, where he studied music, and audio production. He came to Kansas City in 1992, and currently makes his living playing gigs, performing in concerts, recording music, and doing audio engineering. He holds lead positions with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, the Northland Symphony, and Liberty Symphony, and teaches bass at his private studio, at William Jewell College, and at Missouri Western State College. He is equally at home in the classical, rock, country, jazz, and pop music styles, on both upright and electric bass. His on-stage persona makes him as much fun to watch as he is to listen to. James also did the sound engineering on this CD, with the assistance of Nic Aguero.
