Are You Listening Tennessee

by Hayley Stayner

Hayley is embracing her unique voice literally as well as figuratively in the surprising maturity of "Love at First Goodbye" and "She Plays Boys" draws conclusions that reach well beyond teenage idealism. "Crash" slyly gets your attention with haunting banjo notes that land on a Celtic-style drum beat. The ensuing guitar riffs surf the whole tune on a wave you're more than willing to ride to shore. And then you press "replay". The pure optimism of new love scents "Maybe I'll Fall", drawing you in to all the inclinations of a young woman who is no pushover. Then there's the decadent satisfaction in listening to biting disappointment held intact by the quiet revenge of indifference on "To Me Your Dead" (insert applicable image here). There might be more than one face for your mind's eye on this one.

Album Notes
At 5 years old, Hayley loved to sing to the car radio. Her favorite song to sing was Cowboy Sweet Heart by LeAnn Rimes. Again mommy, again! All the while she taught herself to yodel. While Hayley doesn’t do much yodeling today, she does have a love of country music. Her favorite artists are Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert and LeAnn Rimes. While taking vocal lessons, she would pick many of their songs to sing. She learned at a young age to adapt her voice to the style of many different artists. It wasn’t until she covered a Keith Urban song that the true Hayley style came out shining! She has sense learned to inject her own style in whatever she sings. The power in her voice has been compared to Carrie Underwood, while the passion behind her songs has been compared to Alanis Morissette. Her identifiable voice is uniquely Hayley!

Not long ago, Hayley picked up the guitar and taught herself to play and soon after started writing music. Hayley started her own YouTube channel “country601cutie”, and “Hayley Stayner,” where she uploaded cover and original songs. She has developed quite a fan base reaching almost 2 million channel views and 15,000 subscribers. Not bad for singing in your bedroom!

I first became aware of Hayley through her YouTube videos. Her vibrant, soaring voice and bubbly personality quickly made her a favorite. It's great to finally hear her music captured in a first-class studio setting.

The album contains variations on the theme of teen relationships and also an ode to Hayley's musical dreams. The production is high quality, the musicianship by both the sidemen and Hayley (both as a vocalist and instrumentalist) is excellent. This project really shines with Hayley putting her heart into her singing, songwriting and playing.
