Album Notes
Just A Guitar

I owe a debt of thanks to the wonderful songwriter and good friend Jim Gary of Chicago. While crashing at his apartment as we touring folks tend to do when out scrambling on the road, we had a lovely songwriting discussion in which he mentioned his desire to write a song that rhymed the words cigar and guitar. I went home and stole his idea, but eventually found that the cigar part could be left as a mere implication. That led to the title cut of this CD and by degrees to the concept of a record that would reflect, more or less what one of my live performances might be like.
This CD was recorded live in the studio on old fashioned analog tape with all the imperfections left in. There were no overdubs, punch-ins or digital manipulations used in it\'s production.
So here, with all it\'s warts, is a glimpse of what I might sound like at any little coffee house you may wander into, minus, mercifully, all the bad jokes.
A special thanks goes out to the many folks who have requested this kind of a bare-bones recording from me, those who have let me know that they found meaning in this collection of songs, and all of you who continue to support the efforts of live art in all it\'s configurations, especially when it wanders off the pavement of modern commercialism and finds those odd and quirky bits of countryside where ramshackle buildings meet unrequited heroism.

Just a Guitar
I love Dan Hazlett's music and this album is paticularly wonderful. The simplicity allows you to really hear his words, which is geat because his words are always thought provoking and meaningful, sometimes joyful, sometimes sad, but always real. That's what I love about Dan and this album is all of that!

Just A Guitar
Dan Hazlett's guitar style is most often energetic. And it sets him apart from his contemporaries. But what is unique to Dan is he can be subtle and tender with his music. All of this is present on this CD: "Just a Guitar". Heartfelt vocals, genuine thoughts, observations and feelings of life experiences blend so nicely with his energetic guitar playing.
