ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Heard has been playing since 2002 when four singer-songwriters joined forces to produce a folk-rock-country-bluegrass-jazz group with four part harmonies and a blend of acoustic instruments. Think Kate Wolfe meets Crosby Stills and Nash with a dash of Peter, Paul and Mary thrown in. Now add some Sam Bush and a bit of old time rock and roll and… well, you get the picture. We just call it Impure Folk! The Heard plays songs that can carry you away, put a smile on your face and sometimes even make you cry. This is music for your Saturday morning cup of coffee... and for your Saturday night microbrew. Rich vocal harmonies balanced by crisp instrumental work, all original.
Band members, in no particular order are: MB Whitaker on vocals, guitar and percussion; Mark Utting on vocals, guitar, mandolin and dobro; Daniel Reid on vocals, standup bass and percussion; and Josh Bogle on vocals, guitar, slide guitar and percussion.

SAY YES AGAIN
Just when you think you might have THE HEARD figured out, they mix it up again. It's not folk nor bluegrass, exactly. Not rock nor jazz, exactly. They take some influence from each, and give it back sometimes sideways and upside down, sometimes rightside up, maybe. Excellent songcraft. Hard-driving instrumentation. Terrific harmonies. And THEN they add the dobro! This music is good for your ears, even if you're at a loss as to which bin it came out of, or goes into. Give BLISS a listen. Say yes.

i love it
The different influences, and the contrasting styles of the four singer-songwriters, has resulted in a unique album. mb's vocals underscore the songs with a subtlety that cuts through much of the raw and folky energy of the music. Great stuff.
