Album Notes
I am a 23 year old American musician and composer based in California. Born 15 weeks premature, I soon lost my eyesight as a result. My parents started realizing that, by the age of two, I was showing signs of musical ability and developing a strong ear. I started my formal musical education at four and spent 10 years studying at the Southern California Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Music for the Blind, both in Los Angeles. I’m excited by the release of this second album of my work and to be part of the new documentary film, “Hearing is Believing”, which tells the story of my life so far. They filmed me and my family for almost two years and included my encounters with Arturo Sandoval, Taylor Eigsti, Stevie Wonder, Dweezil Zappa, & the late keyboard icon Keith Emerson. Thank you for watching the movie and listening to my music. I hope you’ll visit my website to learn more about my work.

“Music from the Soundtrack of Hearing is Believing” is an amazingly diverse collection of five original compositions by Rachel Flowers, the newly-discovered young prodigy. There are also five covers ranging from pop to classical (from “The Way It Is” to “Pictures At An Exhibition”). Also included are Rachel’s stirring collaborations with Grammy winners Dweezil Zappa (“Montana”), Arturo Sandoval (“Body & Soul”), two songs by her highly musical parents (“Finally” & “Serendipity”), and Rachel’s collaboration with fifty members of the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony on her original composition, “At the End of the Day”.

As Dweezil Zappa states in his powerful liner notes for this album, “Rachel’s ears are her eyes for the world. Her photographic memory and perfect pitch combine to make her an astonishing musical force. She truly has no boundaries to constrain her creativity. She can navigate freely through any style with a maturity beyond her years. …The band and I were thrilled to share our stage with Rachel and she is welcome to return any time! The sight of her running freely through the musical landscape, on that stage, will live long in my memory.”
