Album Notes
This band plays an original blend of funk, jazz & R&B laced with Latin and World flavors yet their songs retain a certain pop sensibility that makes you want to hear this record over and over again.

The musicianship of this band is off the chart. Recorded in the studio, but plays like a live record. You'll find yourself doing an air-jam along with these groovy tunes (note, air-jamming is optional, choose your favorite instrument or choose them all!).

Heavy Merge has been appearing all over NYC delivering their delicious brand of groove to some of the hottest spots in town. Their shows are stompin' good fun, too. Check the website regularly to see when they'll be appearing at a venue near you. Kick back and let Heavy Merge take you on a groovy, funky ride!

MusicDish, the cool industry e-zine has just given Heavy Merge a stellar review. Ben Ohmart writes: "An elegant jazz album with smooth female vocals leading all the way. 'Time' is beautiful, but I just wish there were more of it... For a CD that you'll love, it should be twice as long.... if it is just a taste of better things to come, I've finished the appetizer, I'm still hungry." And that's only the first paragraph, it gets better! This new and fabulous review just in: "After listening to a slew of Rock CDs, it was oh so refreshing to put some acid jazz on the changer-particularly the funky acid jazz of Heavy Merge. This band is simply oozing with rhythm and soul. The brainchild of two native New York Lationa (vocalist Genevieve Gazon and bassist Orlando Marin, Jr.), this blend of world/jazz music is part elegance, part funk (with clear emphasis on the latter). Each song features a grooving, exciting beat behind Gazon's sensational voclas. This girl's got a powerful set of pipes, tunefule and as smooth as silk. If their studio work is any indication, their live performances must be a knockout." MISH MASH SAYS: There's nothing quite like a great solid groove--Heavy Merge does not disappoint. Throw in the strong and beautiful voice of diva-in-the-making Genevieve Gazon, and you've got a record that can't miss. At times, Heavy Merge reminds me of The Brand New Heavies, especially on the acid jazz grooves of "Elektra" and "Mother Instinct". The cool caribbean sounds of "Other Side" leave the soft impressions of Sade, while "Say Nothing" lets the band get aggressive with a funky fusion thump. The truly inspired parts of the album comes in the Latin flavored elements of "Photograph" and "Nino Bravo". "Photograph" begins with a jazzy be-bop piano which transitions into a Samba-inspired rave-up at the end. "Nino Bravo" is an incredible Latin groove that Gazon sings in Spanish. Heavy Merge holds a different experience in each listen, revealing layer upon layer of skill and soul. MISH MASH Mandate: Muy buena! (c)1999 mashmusic. All rights reserved. A hip little Latin Mag called "BochinChat" has just reviewed Heavy Merge in their September issue. This is very important because Heavy Merge was founded by two native New York Latinos. BochinChat is a straight-up Hispanic magazine made by and for Latinos. Heavy Merge and company are welcomed into the fold and back to their roots by Editor, Oscar Rivera and Music Editor, Angel Luis Garcia. You can pick up the magazine at Tito Puente's Restaurant in City Island. For other locations check out: www.bochinchat.com.
