ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Heidi's story behind the song, Hope's Treasure...

"I was asked by the founder of Haven of Hope to write a song for the women. As I began to learn more about these girls and what they've been through, my heart broke for them. Rape and brutal sexual violence has been used as a weapon of war in the DRC against these women (of all ages, too) in staggering proportions. The current statistic is approximately 1150 rapes per day in the DRC. On top of that, even after reconstructive surgeries and medical care, many of these women face another atrocity of being disowned or shunned from family members and/or their community because of certain beliefs they have that 'a raped/violated woman might bring a curse upon them' ".

"So in writing this song for the girls, I prayed and asked God to give me the words He wanted to speak to them. 2 main messages really stood out to me, the first being that God wanted them to know how incredibly valuable they are—that the truth is that they are deeply loved. The second was to not give up hope, that despite how they’ve been treated, there is still hope for healing and a good life ahead”.

“I had the privilege of visiting and getting to know these girls and some of their children on a trip to Bukavu in August ’17 with a small Haven of Hope team. I got to talk with the girls, play the song for them, laugh with them, find out their dreams, really just hang out with them and love them. They are sweet, vibrant women who are keeping hope alive and have a desire to heal, love and live out their destinies. They just need some help with transitional steps.”

“This is where Haven of Hope comes in. HOH provides them with escapes, shelter, provision, medical care, and re-integration into family and society. Therapy and emotional healing is key. Some of the girls have been kidnapped, some have witnessed family members being murdered, others have been mutilated, and some have been raped repeatedly by many men. Many times when the girls have become pregnant, their baby has not been given a birth certificate only because they were a victim of rape and don’t know who the father is.”

“So, my goal with the song is to raise awareness and funds to assist with the purchase of a transition home that will provide counseling, skill trade programs, and in the future, an education for the women and children. Once released, all proceeds from the single will go toward HOH for a fully staffed, rehabilitation facility in Bukavu. Then once the building is purchased, proceeds will go to HOH for future programs and/or more rehabilitation homes”.
