Album Notes
ELEMENTAL ALCHEMY is a live-performance CD recorded in Ojai, CA in March 2015 based in the elements. Everything you hear on this CD was completely improvised. Each element was recorded exactly twice calling in the intention and energy of the element, and what you hear on this CD is the second take of each element track. We did not rehearse any of these tracks and none of this music was written ahead of time. The first take gave us some structure of the overall feel of what we were creating, and when we did the second take, everything came together in a way we feel captured our intention. The only thing planned in advance was which instruments we would use for each track and roughly how each one would begin and end – the musical trajectory of how it unfolded was completely spontaneous and in the moment. The sound of the birds are came from outside the space we were recording in – a renovated bunkhouse on a ranch that was once a horse stable set in the mountains among the flowers and orange blossom trees. The Koshi chimes on the second CD were instruments I first heard in a healing session and sounded like magical fairies – I had to know immediately what that sound was! The special sound of these instruments was something I wanted to capture and share as a compliment to the improvisations. Each chime is tuned to a different element and the final track brings all of the elements together.

The trajectory of the CD is based in one of the healing modalities I practice, Polarity Therapy, based on the teachings of Dr. Randolph Stone. Polarity Therapy focuses on balancing the body though the elements: every part of the body correlates with a different element for healing in this work and working those various parts of the body that are out of balance brings us back into a peaceful state. From my perspective, I also see that the creative process is based both in balancing the elements properly and in navigating how to move through them in order to manifest things in life – especially creative projects. This is not a mediation sound healing CD, this is a CD about activating the elements within ourselves and moving through them to get closer to our purpose on this planet. Ether is where all ideas or manifestations begin. Air is how we give voice to the ideas and intentions and write them down. Water is how we embody these ideas and thoughts as our bodies are made of water. Earth is where we ground our roots on the earth plane to have structure around the ideas. Fire puts these things into action and burns off any other voices and things that are keeping us from our path and intention! And then the cycle repeats. The CD itself is a mini-workshop to help with moving us out of stasis into action – with anything in our lives, both large and small - and bring us back into balance with ourselves.
