ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Steffen and I live at a distance of about a mile from each other. Every now and then we come together on an early Friday morning. Having a coffee, discussing life’s troubles and…. rehearsing some of our favorite jazz standards. Turning on the mike and the recording device for us both to learn from. That’s how, between 2015-2017, the takes on this album came about.
I liked the idea of a demo for us to get some live gigs, but didn’t fancy so much putting our recordings on Cd until I was suddenly struck by an illness in 2017. Recovering, I listened to what we did again and thought: well, death could stop at our door anytime. Why keep this stuff on the shelf and not have it out for others to hear?

I have become used to the idea of publishing my own songs, or original arrangements of songs of others. On this album instead you will hear me cherish a song as it is. Trying an unusual tempo and a scat sometimes or making silly mistakes with the lyrics and working my way back in. Relying on the fine accompaniment of Steffen on the journey. We hope you enjoy the songs and their stories like we did, listening and learning together on those rainy days.

Heleen van den Hombergh
