ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
My name is Herc and I am a musician inspired by the world of Tolkien.

Back in 1998 I used to have a power metal band named „Arkenstone“.
We decided at the time to compose an album
about the adventures of a home-loving hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.
We recorded 2 demos, in which there were 8 songs about this concept.
However, this dream remained on the shelf since the band changed its musical style.

My passion for the work of Tolkien kept itching my mind throughout the years.
This is how „Herc“ was born as a side project.
My first album, „Of perilous realms… and other stories (2004)“
was an acoustic journey through several poems by Tolkien and Edgar Allan Poe.
After that I had participated in a compilation named „ The First Ring“, twice.
Anyhow, all this didn’t fulfil my needs, so I had to go back to that shelf
and blow away those tons of dust from this long forgotten dream of mine…
…to make an album about THE HOBBIT.

In 2009 I gave birth to my second album, „Towards the Mountains“.
At first I thought that if I had 20 songs in the style of my first album it might end up boring.
So the first attempt was to record a full length album in the old power metal style.
That didn’t end up so well… I needed to find an alternative solution
and this is how the final style of the album came out.

The next 2 years I was recording the first songs all by myself in my home studio.
In 2011 I had only 6 songs, out of 20, completed.
Then everything froze due to several personal obstacles.

The wheels went back in motion in 2013 and until
the summer of 2016 all the recording sessions had finally come to an end.
Several friends helped as well along the way and I’m grateful of what they have done for me.
I am also grateful of my beloved wife, Andie,
who has been supportive and helped me out in many ways!

So this is it! My love for music and the need to share it with people who can appreciate it,
has turned this dream of mine into reality! I hope that you will enjoy this album,
the way I enjoyed it throughout all the those creative years, and finally, now, that it is complete.

Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar.
