ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Drummer/Singer/Songwriter Herman Matthews has put together a unique blend of Blues, R&B and Soul on his debut CD “HOME AT LAST.”
Born and raised in Houston, Texas and now living in Los Angeles, Herman has worked and recorded with such acts as Kirk Whalum, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Tower Of Power, The Isley Brothers, Robin Thicke, Stevie Wonder, Everette Harp, Tiffany, George Duke, Meredith Brooks, Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps, and Sir Tom Jones just to name a handful. “HOME AT LAST” is Herman’s first effort as a solo artist. This CD is an organic blend of Blues, R&B and Soul. It pays tribute to the grooves of Stax, Motown, Atlantic, and the Big Easy. Featuring a vocal style that takes you on a musical journey. Treat yourself to uplifting listening experience.

"Home at last" is in the moment, sincere, gentle and way in the pocket.
To release "timeless" music is not an easy task.
Herman did not set out to do this,he just did it.

-"Seedy" Charley Drayton

"Herman's the guy for everybody, he’s versatile, he can adjust to any style. And he acts so much not like a drummer, that’s a good thing. I've been working with Herman since '94 both on stage and in the studio. He is to me, without a doubt, the most consistent and versatile drummer in our business today. But the thing that takes it over the top for me are his human gifts. In all these years, I've never seen him in a bad mood or with a negative attitude. Anyone who's played music long enough knows how rare that is. He's a class act and I admire him deeply."

-Richard Marx

Herman Matthews fully understands the role of the drummer. He never distracts or demands your attention. Everything is in its proper place, the music swings, the songs sound right, the singer sounds better and when you happen to look Herman's way, you feel good about life."

-Bobby Columby

"I cannot tell you all how much i love playing with Herman. He is a deep groove and a deep man. It was a joy to work on this new project with him and i hope for many opportunities in the musical future. Herman, you are the man!!!!"

awesome tunes
The sounds are some of the best I've heard - this is one CD the wife and I can always agree on - that's why we have 2, she won't give mine back. Let me know when you get the next one finished!

Fabulous, really touching
The CD was a surprise as to your other talents , aside from being an outstanding drummer. I am so glad I was checking on the latest concert dates for my man Tom Jones, when I tried some new links and discovered your webpage. I am enjoying the CD. The songs are very diverse.

I found this CD GREAT, I loved everything about it.
I found this CD GREAT, I loved everything about it. The grooves are outstanding. The songs are not pretentious. It’s refreshing to hear that from a drummer. The second cut Hold on you, blows my mind. This is a funky, gritty, take no prisoners Ol’ Skool kind of CD.

I'm just listening to "Home At Last" for the second time and I can't get enough.
HOME AT LAST blends all those styles I really love: blues and soul with a bit of funk. The songs are well played and well arranged - the listener is just glued to the speaker. Your vocals are soulful and emotional. I really like the idea of making the multidimensional CD - every song creates a different mood but together they sound as a perfect whole. Together with first class of backing musicians, including the fabulous Teresa James, you have recorded a really strong CD!

Unique, outstanding sound. Have to listen to it several times!
Herman, brings a breath of fresh air to these tunes. His style is unique and delivery is so genuine and sincere. I think about this cd all of the time and relisten to it over and over again. There is an intimacy that comes across in every tune. He pays tribute to all of the blues genres over the last decades and does an outstanding job. This is a must have cd. This cd has genuine, driving soul. Just love it! Great job Herman.
