Album Notes
Formed in 2006, HipKnosis, is an all-original power pop/rock band rooted in central Iowa. Once a duo, the group is now comprised of five members led by Heather Kelly (vocals, multi-instrumentalist) and Kirk Kaufman (bass). The band brings together the beautiful, almost haunting sound of harmonies layered over guitars, keys and drums.

HipKnosis’ 2008 debut album, Catch a Rainbow, resulted not only in many positive reviews from regional publications and immediate reception by radio, but with the duo being signed by MTV.

Their follow up record, HipKnosis, was released in 2010.

HipKnosis ended their live performance schedule opening up for national acts in August of 2011 to head into the studio to begin recording their third release, “Darkest Dreams.” This project has an expanded approach. Dave Hearn has become a major creative addition to the band, writing three songs and producing six basic tracks for “Darkest Dreams.”

“Darkest Dreams” was released in early summer 2012.

The project was recorded and produced by Kirk Kaufman at Junior’s Motel Recording Studio. Kaufman has owned the studio for more than 40 years and worked with such artists as SlipKnot, BJ Thomas, and Brian Wilson. Kaufman and Hearn were members of Hawks, who signed in 1980 with Columbia Records. They received tremendous critical acclaim for their two releases in the early 1980’s.

Kaufman, Passow, and Hearn are all members of the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame.

HipKnosis is currently in the studio recording their next full length album with hopes to be released in the next few months.
