Harry Miller is a pianist and composer who leads his own contemporary jazz group "The Satisfied Souls" with appearances in the New York City area.

The CD available on this page, "Paradox Fossils", is a solo piano CD recorded in 1993 at Harry's home studio. All of the selections are "first and only" takes. The pieces were improvised and created in the moment with no preconceived musical motifs - with the exception of the three renditions of jazz standards included in the program.

The emphasis throughout the CD is on rich, dense, rhythmically sparse, moody harmonic textures that lure the listener into a state of reflection and contemplation. There are elements of jazz, pop, and 20th century classical influences on "Paradox Fossils".

In 2003 Harry completed seven months of touring in trumpeter Maynard Ferguson's Big Bop Nouveau Band. During a typical Maynard Ferguson concert Harry was featured as a soloist on several tunes, impressing audiences in jazz clubs, concert halls, high schools, and colleges across the USA.

As a freelance keyboardist on the NYC scene, his performing experiences have encompassed a wide variety of musical contexts including jazz, rock, funk, r & b, reggae, west African, Indian devotional chanting, cruise ships, piano bars, weddings, theatrical, dance, and experimental groups.

Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Harry was active in the midwest music scene from the ages of 15 to 18. He then moved to Boston, enrolling at Berklee College of Music, and performing with his own band at Boston area venues. In addition, he studied briefly at The Creative Music Studio near Woodstock, NY. His most notable music teachers have included Ken Palmer, Mike Gibbs, Pat Metheny, Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, Lyle Mays and Mike LeDonne.

Miller has released four recordings under his own name: "Open House", "Paradox Fossils", "Live at the Museum", and "Jazz Beauty Supply". All of the recordings feature Harry's original compositions.

A partial list of musicians Miller has performed or recorded or "sat-in" with include: Greg Osby, Ralph Moore, Jean Toussaint, Mike Stern, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Jerome Harris, Arto Tuncboyacian, Slide Hampton, Ted Curson, Paul Motian, Phoebe Snow, Michael Urbaniak, Jeff Andrews, Cindy Blackman, DK Dyson, Allan Zavod, Jody Espina, Avi Bortnick, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ashford & Simpson, Quincy Jones, and BB Winans.

While not on the road, Harry resides at an artists housing complex in New York City. He enjoys practicing piano, composing, meditation, Eastern philosophy, exercise, travel, nature, taking photographs, and visiting museums.
