City Stops

by Holly Kane

A provocative landscape of light and dark. The sounds are as memorable as the characters and their stories; capturing the rhythms and beats of life in the city. The quest for personal truth is given a voice.

Album Notes
CITY STOPS, the debut concept album featuring the voice of Holly Kane, the songwriting of Dennis Roccia, and the multi instrument playing of producer, engineer, and arranger Michael Dubin (The Little Red Box and City Stops), blends the talent of Los Angeles based musicians Lior Ron (music composer and producer) on trumpet, Richard Hardy (the Jazzman from Carole King’s recording) on saxaphone, Tina Guo (currently touring with Michael Jackson,The Immortal World Tour, Cirque du Soleil) on electric cello, Amir Efrat (band member with Air Supply) on Hammond organ, Franz Mehrfert (musical director for.the Princess Cruise Orchestra) on fretless bass, Kfir Melamed on bass guitar, B.J. Dubin on piano and Wayne O Mills on harmonica with the raw, direct, emotional vibe of Holly Kane.

City Stops is a collaboration among friends which poignantly and powerfully delivers a provocative landscape of light and dark. Gamblers, addicts, lovers, transients, runaways, and forgotten souls who search for redemption are at every city stop. The sounds are as memorable as the characters and their stories; capturing the rhythms and beats of life in the city. The quest for personal truth is given a voice - which shouts loudly through the maze of confusion and unresolved issues.

Songs include a little taste of Chuck Berry, the Allman brothers, Bob Seeger, and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Add some Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Mies Davis, the Blues Brothers, Otis Rush, the Rolling Stones, a tribute to John Cafferty, the Beaver Brown Band and Eddie and the Cruisers, and maybe a little E- Street too. Fats Domino, Curtis Mayfield, and Little Walter are paid tribute too! And, perhaps how Sting would have interpreted Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing-- Gil Evans, Marcus Miller The Wrecking Crew on Pet Sounds-- yes Hal Blaine--listen and you will hear them all.
Genesis, Phil Collins, sounds of Tony Banks Daryl Stuermer and Mark Knophler. Hendrix meets the Doobie Brothers meets Django Reinhardt
Santana meets the Monkees-- really! with a little 60s Sunset Strip/Laurel Canyon Vibe by way of Peter Frampton.
Les Paul, Jeff Beck riffs can be heard on City Stops. All this complimented by Holly Kane channelling Heart, Nancy Wilson, and even Bette Midler.

Fifteen different percussion instruments, all blended so the music interprets the characters in the stories. No AutoTune, No Pro Tools-- solid-- real music--

Love the Ballads
Rich voice - perfect for the songs and the stories that they convey!!! Nice mix...

Holly Kane renders these insightful songs in such a way, that you can feel the person she's telling the listener about. Her range is wide but more importantly the way she sings about the topic has all the right emphasis.

City Stops.... must have listening
great compilation of bluesy rock/adult music. Every piece tells a story and we all have been there. For me, the lyrics, the arrangement and the extrordinary voice of Holly Kane make me think that I am listening to the female version of Bozz Scaggs. Simply entertaining.... can't wait for more. WELL DONE!

An Orginal
Not often do you hear a voice and a collaboration that brings sumptuous originality, talent and heart to music. City Stops has all this and more. Many artists are paid homage, but the VOICE of Holly Kane and the production/writing are the true stars here. Holly's clarity of voice and heartfelt interpretation of the stunning material is a rare pleasure and should not be missed. A deep, thoughtful and smokey ride through the city. Do not miss this trip......fabulous!
