Album Notes
Born and raised in New York City, Hooshere is a first generation Armenian-American whose connection to her heritage, coupled with her passion for music, has molded her into one of the very unique newcomers to the world music scene.

A native New Yorker, through and through, Hooshere spent much of her early adulthood absorbing the myriad of cultural and musical riches around her, from the stages of Broadway, to the street performers of the Village, to cultural programs within the Armenian community, within which she often took part. A trained classical pianist, Hooshere was an accomplished young performer throughout her childhood. Singing and performing since the age of three, music has always been central to her life, and her Armenian upbringing was significantly influential in developing her musical tastes and aspirations. While her goal was always to reach a wide audience, she knew that her roots would play a role in how she would ultimately define and shape her music.

Provenance, Hooshere's debut solo album, is a modern day presentation of songs from times past; while remaining true to the origins of the music, Hooshere infused it with completely new sounds and rhythms - breathing new life into the music of her Armenian ancestors. The album is not limited to revivals - there are three original tracks, written by Hooshere; two of which, with English lyrics, are particularly well poised for a broad and diversified audience.

Hooshere has been receiving high accolades from many of her fellow musicians as well as industry representatives for her release of Provenance. Steve Leeds, a top industry executive formerly with Virgin Records, said that Provenance is, "Refreshing, and unique, with excellent production quality"...and continued to say it was "Like no other world music I've heard before...it's a great blend of traditional and modern instrumentation."

Provenance is produced by Hooshere, with co-production by AB+, a skilled producer, and seasoned French horn player, having performed with such greats as Miles Davis, Lenny Kravitz, Sonny Rollins, and Gil Evans. The album also features well-known guitarist Matt Beck, who recently toured with Matchbox Twenty, and Lisa Loeb. Playing bass on the album is Konrad Adderley, who has played with Aretha Franklin and Sonny Rollins, among others, and is currently part of the musical cast for the Broadway musical "Wicked."

The traditional Armenian instrumentation on the album could not be more authentic, as it was recorded straight from the source - Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. Some of the most notable local musicians were enlisted for the album, including Hratjcha Muradian (kamancha), Norair Kartashyan (blul, duduk) and Alik Peloshyan (dhol).

Recording the album was an incredible journey for Hooshere. Starting out as an experimental few sessions with AB+, she quickly realized that she had found someone who understood her vision, and could help mold the album into what it is today. During the process, she was inspired to write several original tracks, each of which was an evolution all its own. Recording in Armenia was uniquely rewarding, especially while witnessing the Armenian musicians connect with, and interpret her music in such extraordinary ways. The experience of bridging the new with the old, through the remarkable instruments of her heritage, was fulfilling and inspiring, and she feels she captured some of the most essential elements of the album through the process.

The gifted musicians with whom she collaborated, both in New York and in Armenia, each contributed their own unique elements to her music. Together they achieved Hooshere's vision of creating an inventive, balanced fusion of contemporary and traditional sounds, to propel the music of her ancestry into the present day, for a global audience.

Hooshere's Provenance is an excellent CD to listen to at work or while entertaining. The compilation of original and traditional tracks is refreshing and can be enjoyed by all ethnicities. Hooshere’s voice is captivating and the musical arrangement is magnificent. Five Stars are deserved – what a great CD!

Sharistan Ardhaldjian

I hope this is the first of many CDs for Hooshere whose voice is a truly intoxicating marriage of old world and new.

In Provenance, Hooshere beautifully pays tribute to a rich heritage while creating exceptionally unique and inspiring renditions of celebrated folk music.

Her original lyrics and music are even more captivating, and leave the listener wanting to hear more of her breathtaking voice.

She sinuously, erotically sweeps you away
I usually play new CDs on my computer and listen while I keep working. Provenance didn't quite work that way. It made me stop working, put my feet up and surrender to Hooshere's various moods. A wonderful mix that I think even Mannix would applaud!

Simply Wonderful
Hooshere’s Provenance is simply wonderful. She does a great job bringing back old Armenian songs and giving them a modern twist. A must to everyone, particularly to anyone of Armenian descent.

A nice twist
I mostly like it for providing the words to a couple of songs I knew of but could never find the music or words for! I really like her intent and I play it all the time but in heart of hearts I prefer the classic versions. Good work though, really!

A skillful fusion of classical songs & contemporary beats. Works very well.
I have been playing your Provenence CD continuously since I got it last week. It is beautiful. The fusion is so successful that at times I can not decide what is the original & what is new. Additionally, & like the choice of the individual tracks. Every one of them is in the list of top 10 or 20 of my all time Armenian favorites. I like The Call too, it a sweet song. It is amazing how a new song can sound so Armenian. Well done Hooshere, abriss. I hope to here many more of your work in future. Incidentally, I was very impressed & amused by your e-mail confirming the shipment of my CD. It certainly was very original & discriptive. I hadn't heard anything like it, & I shall always remember it.

Traditional Melded With Contemporary
A great beginning for a talented artist. Hooshere has successfully melded traditional Armenian songs with contemporary harmonies and rhythms. The instrumentation and arrangements are very good overall. I loved the oud and the harmonies in Garod (Track 2), the bilingual creativity displayed in the Willow (Track 3), and the vocal harmonies in Eem Anoush Davigh (Track 4). Younger listeners will likely gravitate toward Somebody Else (Track 6) with English lyrics and a modern rhythm. Hooshere's voice is clear, smooth, and seemingly effortless, as best demonstrated by her own vocal harmonies in many of the tracks, including the a capella rendering of Yeraz (Track 7). Definitely a CD worth having.

Sossy Astourian

Hooshere is an amazing musician artist: "The Willow" and "Somebody Else" as well as "Kele Lao" should be presented as single albums! they are Armenian masterpieces but would be appreciated by any ethnic group!

Hooshere has a smooth voice, and is excellent in interpreting emotions into beautiful music, she just carries you with her rendition into a mix of emotions and ecstasy.

She brought tears to my eyes as an Armenian I feel very proud. But she transcends to variety of cultures with her musical interpretation. WELL DONE.

Deep, rich, enchanting melodies. Very enjoyable listening!
The compilation of songs on the new release "Provenance" are well known for all ages - yet presented in a fresh new sound with wonderful instrumentation.
