ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hopewood is an epic and heartfelt musical endeavor that fuses the best of post-rock instrumentation with the intensity and passion of mid-west indie rock. Formed in December 2004 by Richard Allen (guitar), Daniel Baker (bass) and Mark Vincent Bussey (guitar), they were joined in February 2005 by Lars Marcus Jackson (drums) to form an initial instrumental line-up. They were joined by Thomas Jackson on vocals merely three days before their first ever show. This line-up played a number of shows around the country, being well received for their driven and emotional performances of well-crafted melodic pieces that built to shattering crescendos.

Comparisons were drawn with bands such as Explosions In The Sky, Mineral, Mogwai and The Appleseed Cast. After a long search the band finally appointed string players Sarah, Alice and Anna, on cello, viola and violin respectively, to add further depth to their sound. The inclusion of the strings adds subtle texture and beauty to the more reflective and somber moments of the songs, whilst adding a further layer of sound to the moments of explosive release that erupt during the songs, as guitars, drums and strings soar in unison to reach heights of emotion that many more experienced bands cannot approach.
