ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jingle Jangle Journey – Horst-Peter Schmidt

You hold in your hand a 17-song testament to the fact that Horst-Peter Schmidt has maintained and enhanced the legacy of the Byrds and Roger McGuinn like no other artist. It’s one thing to have a McGuinn signature model Rickenbacker 370RM 12-string guitar and a McGuinn signature model Martin 12-string guitar in your collection of instruments. It is quite another thing to possess the instrumental talent, the songwriting skills and a voice that, together, leave music fans believing that they are really listening to Roger McGuinn – rather than Horst-Peter. Jingle Jangle Journey combines, for the first time, material from Horst-Peter’s solo repertoire as well as songs that he contributed to albums by Different Faces (The Story of Jim Crossman, The More Things Change and Signature) and Starbyrd, the self-titled album by Starbyrd (his collaboration with Graham Allman Talbot).

Many Baby Boomer musicians were captivated by the chiming sound of George Harrison’s and Roger McGuinn’s Rickenbacker 12-string guitars in the mid-60s, and a succession of younger musicians have kept jingly-jangly music an integral part of pop/rock music. Horst-Peter Schmidt stands head and shoulders above this group of musicians who have exhibited the passion for keeping this “sound” alive. Listen carefully to his songs, and you will discover that Horst-Peter is a father, a husband, a romantic poet who bares his soul … and a man of conviction … who also happens to flawlessly intertwine chiming 12-string guitar riffs with meaningful song lyrics and topics. While his songbook gives a strong nod to the folk-rock of the 1960s and the country-rock of the 1970s, Horst-Peter builds masterfully on this foundation – treating music fans to many wonderful original songs.

The 17 songs on Jingle Jangle Journey cannot really do justice to the wealth of melodic songs, upbeat tunes and powerful ballads that Horst-Peter has composed during his career, but this collection of songs is certainly a superb “snapshot” of his body of work. Once you have absorbed the music on this compilation, I believe that you will desire to hear more from the artist I have nicknamed “The Crown Prince of Twelve-String.” I stand in envy of his talent, and I remain grateful that he has added a sparkling codex of songs to the indie music scene. I am confident that when I pull Horst-Peter’s music off my shelf in the future, his songs will possess the same timeless and endearing qualities that the music of the Byrds, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Eagles, Tom Petty and CSNY have today.

Good synopsis of HPS's career - the Crown prince Of The 12 String Rickenbacker
A compilation or 'journey' if you will, of Horst-Peter Schmidt's solo as well as some of his work with Different faces and Starbyrd. If you enjoy Roger McGuinn, The Byrds or Tom Petty then this is DEFINITELY for you!! I REALLY enjoy his music. More people need to hear this!!!
