Album Notes
It's Funk - part II!!
The long awaited return of Austin, TX based double trio Hot Buttered Rhythm. You thought Texas was all cowboys...well, think again! 4 years since their first self-titled release one might say they have grown musically since their 1st rhythmic exploration. 'Blacksoundsploitation' deals a little more with composition and themes that take you straight to GROOVE CITY. Take a listen to these skilled musicians who have an affinity for fine funk and jazz.

Hot Buttered Rhythm's double trio concept consists of:
Brannen Temple - funk drums (Robben Ford)
JJ Johnson - jazz drums (Doyle Bramhall II)
Yoggie - electric bass (Ray-J)
Edwin Livingston - upright bass (Los Hombres Caliente)
Fred Sanders - piano/ keys (Dirty Dozen Brass Band)
James Simpson - B3 organ/ keys (Ronnie Laws)
w/ Tomar Williams - keys (on 3,4,9,10) (Funky London)

These dudes can tear up a stage during live performances (as heard on 4 of this CDs 11 tracks). 'Summer Nostalgia' includes a duo drum conversation/solo that showcases a commitment to complementary musical exchanges vs. the typical self-righteous chopfest one might expect to hear in this setting. 'Yin's Yang' uses the band's built in Jazz / Funk split personality. They use the funk side for tight all out blowing. Then seemlessly merge the jazz 'trio' to mix it up. The 2 sounds never detract from each other showing that the 2 styles of music come from the same place.

HOT AND HEAVY, the studio tracks don't leave room for question either. 'Lord Only Knows' is a vamp in 7/8 that gets phat and greasy. 'The Chase' gets smooth letting on to yet another facet of the bands talent.

In all, it's music 1st, groove 2nd...
HBR is back!
They always come ready to play!
