ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Houston Symphony Chorus
Charles Hausmann, Director

The Houston Symphony Chorus, led by Dr. Charles Hausmann, is one of the oldest symphony choruses in the United States. From its founding in 1946 hundreds of singers have sung with the Chorus during its nearly 60 year history. Members are experienced choral singers coming from throughout the community and representing a great variety of professional disciplines. Committed to the performance of masterworks from the choral-orchestral repertoire, these volunteer musicians rehearse weekly for their annual schedule of concerts with the Symphony at Jones Hall. In addition to their regular performance season with the Houston Symphony, the Chorus has performed throughout Europe and has had a 17 year collaboration with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City.

Dr. Hausmann has been director of the Houston Symphony Chorus since 1986. During that time he has prepared the Chorus for more than 350 performances, covering 400 years of choral repertory. As director of choral studies and professor of conducting at the Moores School of Music since 1985, he also conducts the Moores School Choral Artists, and supervises the master's and doctoral programs in choral conducting. His conducting appearances nationally and internationally, including his 2003 debut in Carnegie Hall, have been acclaimed for his ability to fuse choral and orchestral forces into a unified ensemble of highly artistic merit.
