ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"The Grey Area" is the second full-length album of the Finnish electro-pop / dark synth band
Huminoida. While the music continues on the lines of the debut "Whiter Album" with the
broad-minded approach to electronic styles, the lyrics have gained sharper edges.

Thoughts on the new album:

This wasn't an easy album for me to make. The last three years haven't been exactly
euphoric in my life or in the world in general, and the anxiety of the times has affected the
lyrics and overall mood of the tracks. There's no science fiction or surrealism this time,
the themes on this album are very much of this world, this reality. That is one of the reasons
why I decided to call it "The Grey Area".

It may sound strange, but I see myself more of a singer-songwriter than an electronic
music maker (to call myself a musician seems far-fetched since I'm not a virtuoso), and
more than ever I concentrated on making carefully crafted songs with well thought-out lyrics.
Despite the difficult topics on some of the songs I definitely wanted to avoid the "Fuck you
fucking cunts" -type of argumentation, because there's enough moronic shouting on the
Internet already.

"The Grey Area" is an appropriate name also because musically it's kind of an oddball
among the electronic releases. Its disregard of trends and the genre-defying quality may be a
hard nut at first, and to file it under "synth pop" is a bit misleading. There are the melancholic
synth pop tunes (Just by Wishing, Beneath the Empty Skies, Ghosts on Photos), but also
the new wave-ish, harsher tracks (Contradictator, Trying Times) as well as the atmospheric
"Double Life" and the heavy, lyric-driven songs (Thoughts Like Insects, Every Time Humankind).
It is diverse, but I think strong collection of songs.

So, the Grey Area (2018) after Whiter Album (2011). I just hope that this isn't a Finnish colour
trilogy in the making, because I think it would be good for the soul to turn towards the light
after this one.
