ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This, being Hypnotic Clambake's third release is full of wonderful horn arrangements that meld into the many different styles this CD delivers. Considered to be one of the bands most experimental and well produced albums, "Kent the Zen Master" can be enjoyed by both the avid Jazz listener and rock and roller. Maury Rosenberg once again has produces a thrilling and entertaining ride for his eclectic listening audience.

Hypnotic Clambake embodies the new American man: he's wordly, tuned in, unplugged, and he hears the music of the world in his head. Hypnotic Clambake has struck again, and the groups archetypical leading man sums up it's whole attitude: make music, play well, have fun. The band members play tag with Klezmer, play hide and seek with Swing, drum like Arabs, sing like Okies, and blow and squeeze like the Count Basie Big Band. They are firmly tongue-in-cheek, maybe too clever for some folks who don't want to listen, but they are never predictable, never boring, and certainly caustic. Special treats: "Bisexual Military," the tango: "Kent the Zen Master," the throat singing extravanganza: "100 Volts," I won't even try to explain, Remember, "Arachnids Are Taking Over the Planet," so you'd better make time for some "Chlorinated Pool Music." Become enlightened, Grasshopper, and take your accordian with you.
Cliff Furnold, CMJ Journal, 4/95
