Album Notes
Accomplished jazzman Hyung Kyu Lee began his musical career as a drummer for various rock bands in venues across South Korea, including the annual Busan International Rock Festival. After college, Kyu served as a percussionist in the South Korean Navy Band before moving to Tokyo where he graduated from the Muse School of Music. In 2005, Kyu moved to the United States to pursue his pedigree in jazz. He studied at the Los Angeles College of Music as well as Berklee School of Music in Boston. After graduating, he received a scholarship to complete his Master’s Degree at the California Institute of the Arts under the mentorship of the legendary jazz drummer Joe LaBarbara. Since completing his studies in 2014, Kyu has offered his signature, imaginative, drum textures in bands involving Los Angeles legends such as Charlie Haden, Larry Koonse, Darek Oles, Wadada Leo Smith, David Roitstein, Alphonso Johnson, Gary Fukushima, Cathy Segal Garcia, and Ronald Mahdi. He recently released his debut album "Wondrous Grace,”
