Album Notes
Iain began his tertiary education at N.I.D.A. Fully aware of the honor of gaining a place, Iain gave his full attention. Well, perhaps not quite his full attention. By the end of the first year he was working as a professional musician in the highly respected 'SUN'. (Renee Geyer)
Music was meant to be; from then on Iain worked with many very successful Australian bands. His talents as a drummer and composer were recognized and prized.

IAIN McLENNAN'S LATEST ALBUM "FAITH" Review :-Been a while since his last highly acclaimed Mauve album in 1991, but Iain McLennan the well traveled singer, songwriter, guitarist, drummer who has performed with Ariel, Richard Clapton Band, Sports, Mondo Rock, Russell Morris Band has lost none of his skill for crafting heartfelt and thought provoking songs. From the hauntingly real Faith with it's atmospheric flugel horn courtesy of Nigel Harris and honest lyrics as with If You Walk Away, you really feel the experience and emotion in the lyrics. Love Can Set Us Free is an optimistic reggae vibe. Tumbling Down is characteristic Iain and One Step Closer includes fellow ex Mondo rock & Ariel keyboard man Tony Slavich. You can tell that lyrics come from real life experience where the words are not wasted or contrived. This is honest stuff and hopefully Iain will get it out and about live soon. In the meantime check out Faith.  Available through www.cdbaby.com/cd/iain

Review of Iain McLennan's Faith Album
Recorded at Oinkmuse Studios Mosman 2003

Faith displays an unpretentious, but insightful production that is rarely heard these days. The album is open and honest with strong songs and heart felt vocals telling stories about real-life experiences. Not only are the melodies and vocals a feature but the grooves sit well, particularly in the sense of the whole album balance.

Iain sings about grief, and he sings about love and loneliness and the other stuff you've heard a thousand times, but somehow while he's doing the singing, you're feeling every bit of it. The songs, well, they're some of the most beautifully haunting melodies you'll ever want to hear. The lyrics are emotional ... Iain digs deep and holds nothing back.

Being involved in assisting Iain with some of the studio set-up, guitars and mixing was a fabulous experience. Some times we would just be sitting around chatting and listening when spontaneous moments would happen. On one occasion I remember we set up a guitar and ad-libbed over the chorus of 'If You Walk Away' ... a couple of takes later that was it. Not a planned session or anything, just a creative moment.

An amazing aspect of Iain's album is that he built his studio "Oinkmuse" as he wrote and recorded the album. Although I helped with technical matters like Pro Tools operation and mic preamps he essentially handled the whole thing, including building the drum enclosure and recording/playing the live drums without an engineer ... that big beat, awesome. And you can actually hear the high hats, which really is a dying art form these days.

This project epitomises album production on a low budget. Iain used a small Pro Tools (LE) recorder, mid-range microphones and basic pre amps in a home environment, but the end result sounds fabulous.

Get a copy to hear for yourself!

It proves with good songs and experience you can compete against the major budget releases. In fact I challenge any producer, under a blind test, to guess how and where this album was recorded.

Regarding "OINKMUSE" the studio sounds great and I am well into new album. For those of you who have visited this site, thank you and don,t forget if you would like any more info I am only an email away. Photos, all sorts of stuff. As soon as I am able my website will be up and linked directly to CD BABY.

More News..It looks like Radio Poland have picked up the CD.... more news on it's way. Australian airplay is starting to move as well, so overall I cannot complain. Cheers to all.......Iain

For all who have checked in I wish you a safe and happy Xmas.
I feel a sense of change is upon us all at present. I started to feel this strongly around 8 months ago. I was wary. Now I realise the change is positive as a time for completing unfinished challenges or works. To move on to the new.

In saying this I am reflecting the changes in my own life. A strong ending to a tricky year. Cheers to all Iain

"Faith" is gathering pace and moving in and around Europe. Also moving up the Australian East coast. June sees me in Paris for a week. Then it's Italy, Greece and finally THE BIG APPLE. If you see me, say hello, especially if your local. Tell me what's happening and what's not. I have never been to New York. This will be amazing! Yep, I'm excited. So grab me and tell me all about it. Cheers Iain

The lyrics, melodies and musicianship on this album are a rare gift.
From the first track I was moved by the power and sensitivity of this artist. Each song invites you to understand moments in your own life moving you to re-evaluate your own struggle and realise the true spirit of humanity. The title track 'Faith' will never leave me, as in this album I was reunited with not only myself, but my complete family. I know now that I am not alone. A beautiful and powerful album.

I've seen him live and been touched more deeply than I could ever have expected.
I was not prepared to have so many buttons pushed and certainly not by a man with someone standing in his shadow, yet the largest sense of humor you'll come across if you're lucky to get close enough. The last time I heard this voice was fifteen years ago. Then. He vanished! I now have an idea of where he went. Seeing the cover, was like seeing a ghost. I bought it. Always candid and polite I remember the fun in the voice then the sadness in the eyes. Not an album buyer so much as a searcher I found Faith and found bits of me in each song.
The title track won't leave me with its opening line... When we were young... to the chorus .. But heaven knows... There no preaching in this album.
If you turn Away reminds me of the madness of first love... if you go so am I feeling. The hunger in the lyric is that very ache of love and for love. There is so much to this album. A voice you hear rarely. Powerful and broken to pure and gentle as in the song Fallen. As i said I've been moved by Iain Mclennan in the past now I'm moving with him. I highly rate this album for what it gives you. He made it by the skin of his teeth and shares some secrets when it comes to emotional survival. Melodic, optimistic and I love it! That's it... I love it... Thanks M oakland

I thought at first Faith might be a religious type album. Wrong.it's Spiritual,F
Yep, I was wrong. This album is not by a religious group. It's by a passionate man. I downloaded all I could get. I never thought much of the Australian POP music scene. But this isn't pop it's soul and soulful. Two tracks turned me around. Mama and Rock Me emotionaly honest and melodically beautifull. I can say that this album keeps getting better as you discover new ideas and situations that are faced by us all. Thanks Iain Mclennan, you have changed my attitude and I am waiting for your next cd to be released. Mary Peterson

First a ‘ phone call and as promised, “FAITH’ a new CD arrived.

The caller, an old friend, writer-guitarist Iain McLennan. Those who saw him play during his years with Ross Wilson, Mike Rudd, Richard Clapton, Stephen Cummings and others, won’t be surprised at the quality and intensity of his work today. The searing honesty of his lyrics and voice, and the melody lines that support them, could only emanate from someone who has done it hard but is not about to complain.

The tracks “Faith”, “Fallen”, “If you walk away”, and “Mama”, all different in feel make compelling listening, as does the CD itself.

In the end, “FAITH” tells us a lot about McLennan and perhaps many others who made music their life on and off the road, and paid a price – it’s all there “on the page”, but without bitterness or self-pity. Quite the reverse. “FAITH”, the CD conveys to me anyway, a sense of arrival, peace and accomplishment. McLennan is a rock ‘n roll warrior who has once again made his mark.

Congratulations Iain. I won’t wish you good luck with “FAITH’ . If the web site response is any guide, you won’t need it !

iTunes Australia. What a great album..Thanks mate!
This is easy. iTunes hit Australia. A friend of mine had Faith on his iPod...First of all I listened to previews of the album, downloaded Rock Me which by the way is characteristic of the whole album. Lyricaly each song is complete as if written as the artist is working his way through many situations. What I like most about all the material is the positive, optomistic feeling it generates. No self pity, just a question here or there with great melody and rhythm. One track Love Can Set Us Free, gets me up and moving as do many of the others. Faith the title track is life itself is all encompassing and is a personal favourite. This is no religious album. Spirtual Blues...this album will be around forever. Each time I listen I find a new feeling plus Iain Mclennan is not only the writer performer ..he recorded the whole thing and played most of the instruments. Check out the web site www.oinkmuse.com this guy's got great photos and actualy replies to email... A+

Great melodies, tales of life. A good listen anytime.+++++
From the first track to the last, I was drawn in by each song. I have released a couple of cd's, this guy does it all himself. Playing most of the instruments is one thing but to make it feel and sit like a band is some skill. I highly rate this album not only for it's sound, but it's soul.

Will you love me when I'm old? I will!
It was on my travels through Europe when I found this album. 'Let's Get Down', was the first track I heard. I didn't know who it was, only that I had to hear more. 'If You Walk Away' from piano and vocal to a full blooded chorus reminded me of the euphoria of love and the lengths we might go to maintain it. Melodic, lyrical and darkly humorous, 'Faith' is a treasure to be shared.

The gifted are often ignored. Eventualy you hear music and writing of this calib
To keep it short, just buy a copy and listen. Mclennan, it is obvious has done some personal work. I bought his last CD "Mauve". Had seen him perform in the late 70's in his role of drummer. Was he happy in the music and enjoying the benefit of Radio aiplay? NO. he replyed "tonight I'm flogging a dead horse. It's me and vocals the rest is an undiciplined mess,!" I wasn't surprised, as on an earlier occation he had said "If i don't drive the vocalist via rhythm and dynamics-he cannot function ( I know from experience, as a kid and I played Guitar and sang my songs) the drummer was rubbish..so I played them. 100% is where you begin and my gig is to not only drive the clowns but the Ringmaster. I don't play for fun, I play for keeps. If I let the man dangle on a string, he cannot hit his stride, settle and let go.That's the point..let go and let music do what it does-elevates us all. Wilson is a good responder and has a similar attitude/mind you, we hardly know each other. But I know the animal and Wilson is that! Mclennan laughs..
Now 2004-2005 here he is again. Rejuvenated, to say the least, he is frisky and open. The Album...Faith full of life experince is a strong move for Mclennan. Songs like "Mama" the subject, adoption is as hungry and political as it ever was. Mclennan works his way through rejection, understanding, confusion, every emotion is taunted, his voice is far more powerful than I remembered. purely soul driven... "Mama I have a son, I would give him up to no one' .."I just can't understand, why you did not take my hand...Oh no" When asked about his experience, Mclennan quietly reminds me.."Not all searches, adventures, particularly the search for a lost city/soul, whatever end in success . To survive any crisis, letting go plays a major role, as when it's done,Thats it. The end. Let Go! move on....Released I was, but not prepared for the turmoil it provoked." Rock Me with it's brushed rhythm implies that we sometimes limit our joy to feel more deeply. Cheaky as he is Mclennan is a serious man. He's been pushed, that's the given.. and understands the foolish in mankind..... I am simply grateful." I can enjoy music again, hold my son in my arms, love my girlfriend, be a part of my family and see the sun rise and set...there is nothing better. I've tried evrything else......Lets Get Down..turn off the tv..sit with your lover and hold on....Fallen, If you Turn Away, great songs. Writing this review with the album playing in the backgroud is quite haunting. Mclennan's intellect, his provocative sense of humour come from both heaven and hell. For me, I am strengthened by the optimism in this CD.Try it..you'll like it, Love it, see yourself and maybe, just maybe; you might open the door, wander outside and take a good look at what we all have been given....Mary J Wright- NY Union

A Sight For Sore Ears
How many years has it been? The answer is two. That's two to many. Wading through new releases is not an easy nor at times a pleasant task. Then, bang, a voice and melody. Lyrics that are heart felt and to the point. Each track on this album conveys not only hope but bases hope on action. No poor me, she's gone baby. Be it a love song, as in FALLEN and my favourite LET'S GET DOWN or the haunting ROCK ME. Iain Mclennan has a quality and character that endures time. For me to label it's beauty and power would be deceiving. The music is of high quality with tight arrangements. With each listen I got a sense of the man. His versatility as a musican places him amongst the world greats. Have a listen.

Not having heard of this artist, the cover made me curious. "Tumbling Down", opened my ears and drew me in. What also came to light was the fact, Iain Mclennan wrote, recorded and performed the whole thing. A cohesive everlasting album. Add this album to your collection as it is timeless.
