ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Liebst du um Schönheit" is a collaboration between vocalist i-chin (also known as I-Chin Feinblatt or Betty Lee) and pianist xoph (also known as Christoph Bull). It was the first song they performed together shortly after they met and started collaborating. They both were immediately struck by the power of the words, which extol the virtue of true love, in combination with the beautiful Romantic musical setting. And they are both champions of the memorable and beautiful work by one of the earlier eminent female performer-composers in Classical music, Clara Schumann, who has been described as the "Beyoncé of her day" (Quote by Isata Kanneh-Mason in The Guardian).

This recording was especially created to celebrate Schumann's 200th birthday on Friday, September 13, 2019. It was made in the state-of-the-art recording studio at UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music. xoph played a Hamburg Steinway Model D and i-chin used her beautiful contralto voice. The recording and mixing engineer was Jose Carillo.
