Album Notes
Bringing together some of the most innovative, exceptional & contemporary musicians in the North, 'If Destroyed Still True' is led by Tommy Evans on drums & features 'Parliamentary Jazz Award' winner Nick Tyson on guitar, Simon Kaylor on sax, Simon Beddoe on Trumpet / Flugel, Johnny Tomlinson on piano and Seth Bennett on Double Bass. Whilst drawing upon influences from Avishai Cohen to Perfect Houseplants IDST have developed a truly orchestral style whilst retaining a focus on improvisation & musical communication. This has resulted in a coming together of jazz & folk in an idiosyncratically English fashion - sweeping melodies, unusual harmonic progression & complex rhythm keeping. IDST are gaining a large following which is set to grow even larger as the group have recently won the Jazz Services 'promoters' Choice' Award 2008 which has secured a showcase performance at this years' London Jazz Festival as well as a nationwide tour in 2009.

These 2008 winners of the Jazz Services 'Promoters' Choice' Award set their angular improvisations inside a solid structure of carefully executed song craft. Combining elements of through-composed orchestral jazz, the hide-and-seek melodic playfulness heard on albums by Miles Davis’ “second great quintet”, and the liquid tones of modern artists like Bill Frisell, IDST have created a contemporary folk-jazz sound that is progressive without ever being off-putting.
