ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Illana Zauderer Parker, the beguiling singer who began her career as a stage actress, is spicing up the concert scene. Having earned the title of “Best Broadway Female Vocalist” in San Francisco and dubbed “flirtatious as any screen siren,” Illana brings audiences and critics to their feet with her juicy, elegant voice and her theatrical interpretations of American Song.

Looking beyond her usual repertoire, in her award-winning CD Hot in Here Illana includes unique interpretations of jazz standards along with a few gems of the contemporary musical theatre, with works by Amanda McBroom, David Frishberg, Joni Mitchell, and Stephen Sondheim. In 2010, the title track of the album won KGO Radio’s annual music competition on the Ronn Owens Program, Northern California’s number one radio show. 35 tracks by local musicians were selected from hundreds of entries and aired briefly before listeners called to choose their favorite. Parker’s track drew raves from the hosts and won the listener vote with an unexpectedly high turnout. The station received 1300 calls per second at the peak of voting, shutting down its phone system twice during the tally.

In 2002, Illana debuted her cabaret show, Living in Color, matching her compelling storytelling skill with the great works of Broadway and emerging star composers.

On the theatrical stage, Illana Zauderer Parker’s Off-Broadway credits include the 1998 revival of Howard Korder's Boys' Life as 'Maggie the Runner,' for which she was hailed as one of “Off-Broadway’s Most Promising Talents” by Playbill Magazine. A California native, Illana has appeared with theatre companies on both coasts, including her roles as naughty 'Venus' in the acclaimed production of Cole Porter's Out of this World and as 'Charlotte Goodhue' in Leave it to Me! (Cast recording released in spring, 2002.) Additional roles include 'Prudence' in Christopher Durang's Beyond Therapy at the renowned Plush Room in San Francisco, 'Tzeitel' in Fiddler on the Roof, 'Margarita' in Miami Lights for TheatreWorks, 'Billie' in Born Yesterday, 'The Witch' in Into the Woods, 'Sally' in Cabaret, and 'Anita' in West Side Story.

Illana Zauderer Parker has also been honored to sing onstage at Alice Tully Hall in New York City and with the Arcadian Singers of Oxford University. Her film and television appearances include the indie films Phrenia and Dress Up, as well as One Life to Live. Illana studied with Ron Stetson at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, and with Tony Award-winner Betty Buckley. She earned her BA in Music and Voice at Stanford University.

A terrific debut
I love this album. Starting with the beguiling "Hot in Here," through a nice variety of styles and genres, Illana is consistently terrific, as are the musicians in her ensemble. She makes every song on her own, and I'll never get tired of listening. Highly recommended.

FABULOUS!
Clever, fun, and beautifully sung jazz vocals, this CD is a complete treasure. Parker's voice practically reaches through the speakers and to tickle the listener's ears, soul, and sense of humor. A tasteful mixture of jazz and cabaret vocals, I listen to it in the car and at home, this one's a keeper.

Magical
The sign of a true artist is when they take you out of your world into a completely different world that they created. Such is the case with Illana Zauderer Parker's "Hot in Here." I am completely mesmerized by Ms Zauderer Parker's beautiful voice. The effects of which are peaceful and calming. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Every time I listen to the CD I just want to sit by the fire and drink hot chocolate.
