Album Notes
World-renown Imperial Brass is Texas' premier large brass ensemble. This Dallas-based group consists of 5 core members and 13 auxiliary members, which combine to create their large brass ensemble. The repertoire of Imperial Brass is quite extensive and varies in style. As active educators, Imperial Brass is dedicated to encouraging and inspiring future generations of musicians. They were also featured on PBS' series Barney and Friends, in an episode entitled "Come Blow Your Horn." Imperial Brass has two additional recordings- a holiday CD: "Christmastime is Here" and a compilation of audience favorites: "Classical, Jazz & Beyond."

This recording is dedicated to "Papa" John A. Gambell. After a courageous battle with cancer, he went to be with the Lord on Good Friday of 2012. One of his last requests was for Imperial Brass to make an all-jazz recording. John is survived by his wife Janet and two children, who are both talented musicians - Susan Frazier (horn) and Tony Gambell (percussion/piano). Papa's love for music was varied and extensive, with a special love for anything fast, loud and brassy. in the Classical realm, he especially liked the music of Gustav Mahler. In the Jazz realm, he truly loved the music of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. HIs favorite tune of all was "O Danny Boy." We hope you enjoy this collection as much as we know that he is. We love you and miss you Papa.
