Album Notes
The inimitable Canberra Jazz duo In2DEEP combines the stunning vocal talents of Rachel Thorne with the pianistic and compositional abilities of Mike Dooley. The duo has been soothing and inspiring audiences around Canberra and the region for the last several years, with a combination of renditions of the great jazz standards with their own sometimes soulful sometimes swinging jazz originals.
“Just for the Heaven of it” is the culmination of those years and contains 12 original jazz songs, many composed in the tradition of the great American song book and Latin Jazz classics, with a few eclectic ethnic influences introduced. From lyrical ballads to catchy duets with witty lyrics, from summery bossanovas to lilting jazz waltzes, the album takes you on an emotional and delightfully escapist journey to distant shores and dreamy vistas.
The album was recorded at Canberra’s Hi- hat studios with an enviable line up of some of Canberra’s finest jazz musicians, including Mark Sutton on drums, James Luke on bass, Greg Stott on guitar, Dan Mclean, Dan Bray, Richard Manderson and Valdis Thomman on horns, and some of Canberra Symphony orchestra's elite string players.
