ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Searching for somewhere meaningful to ride out the storms of life? Look no further. Inda Eaton and her cast of musical talent invite you to batten down the hatches, turn up the volume and find sanctuary in sound.

After years on the road, home was starting to look like a dream vacation for Eaton, a longtime singer, songwriter and storyteller. Never more was this so than when the seeds of her new album started to take root in late 2017—she wanted to grow them right in her own backyard. So, she decided to take her work home with her.

The result? Shelter in Place, Eaton’s ninth independently produced album. Featuring B. Rehm-Gerdes, Michael Gugliemo, Jeff Marshall and Jeffrey Smith (with special appearances by Eve Nelson, Nancy Atlas, Lee Lawler and Rose Lawler), Shelter in Place is a stunning mix of emotionally charged anthems, ballads and boot-stompers. More stunning than the tunes themselves is the fact that they were recorded and produced in a 240-square-foot room at the rear of Eaton’s modest house in East Hampton, New York. But as your senses surf the waves of crystal-clear harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, smart piano stylings and equally shrewd percussive accents, you might just believe she lives at Abbey Road.

Eaton unpacks the lessons and souvenirs of life on the road into 11 songs whose stories capture everything—from the freedom and concurrent loneliness of travel, the ethereal and corporeal ambiguities of love spent apart, the humor of rolling with the punches, and the achy pondering of what it means to survive (or not survive) relationships, careers, illness, and other challenges. It also captures the artist’s conviction that there’s no place like home and music to recover from it all.
Through Eaton’s powerful storytelling and knack for human-connection-through-song, this musical journey through life, death, laughter and love simultaneously offers a haven of healing—a perfect space to Shelter in Place.
