ABOUT “PIEL DE ARENA” (SKIN OF SAND or SAND SKIN) (See credits, below)

"- Mom, is it God who chooses us, or is it us, who choose God?

- Because, if it's me who is to choose God, I choose the God of Sea." (Ch.S., 6 years old, after surfing for the first time)

The name of the cd PIEL DE ARENA (SAND SKIN), is given by the homologous song, inspired by the coast of Montevideo, where Inés lived for ten years, and recorded her two albums.

She was feeling misunderstood, misinterpreted, and, together with the songwriting, this coast was the healing gift from nature, at that moment of her life.

She wanted no more arguments or statements, but feelings, perceptions, real and present moment. The senses are the ones that bring us to living here and now. Arguments mostly take us to the past. And it was time for change.

The first song of the album is called “manos de alfarero” (hands of a potter). Should in fact be called “hands of a sculptor” but, sometimes, sound decides , you know.

It is woman being able to perceive her shape only by his hands, as if he was building her from clay. If she is not touched, her own image disappears from her mind. All presented in an artistic, honest and careful way.

Well, it is also about missing someone who is absent, and then needing some time to acknowledge that person not as a stranger, but as the one, again.

It’s a song full of beauty, in its metaphors.

The second song is called “Imán”, which means “Magnet”. The skin of one as a magnet to the skin of the other part. And the “loose iron filings” of each one, ordered through the magnet of the other.

It is also about dying and rebirthing within a relationship, and still being conscious of who we are as individuals.

The third song, is the one that gives the name to the album, “Piel de arena”, which means “Skin of sand”, and evocates the coast of Montevideo, Uruguay. Its curvilinear silhouette makes each place be perceived as an isolated corner, very different from the next.

It also represents being healed by nature. Her sorrows / worries / ... going to the depth of the sea, carried away by the waves.
The song was based on this phrase that Inés once wrote: “Montevideo, sheets of water caress your skin, which is sand”. But four years passed until inspiration came, and she was able to complete the whole song with it.

It happened during only two days, in which Inés felt like “in a bubble” that contained the sound and lyrics of that song. Reality was something happening behind this bubble, like a dream. And this bubble, and the song within it, was her only reality. So: the worlds were turned upside down, during those two days .

The fourth song, “Vibrar sin tocarte” “To vibe, without touching, yet”, was already in her first album "muscles of the soul". She felt that she owed that love song a bowed string, which would represent love. The cello was the secret, to feel that the song was now ready, the way it was meant to be.

It is about becoming very perceptive, aware, about the other person, even without seeing or touching her. There is a vibe in the air, something in the environment that connects both people, because one soul has been touched by the other.

It does not deny skin-to-skin contact, but it assumes a previous vibration, which precedes it.

The fifth song, “Piel ó palabras” (“Skin or words”), is about silence. Not the peaceful silence, but the one of not expressed feelings, whichever they are.

The unspoken will be, anyway, present in the air. The people around us will perceive it, and need our words or touch, to understand what exactly is in that atmosphere, that silence has created.

The eigth song, “Sueña despierta” (“She dreams awake”), is about her time and mind being caught by her daydreaming. It is also about taking risks, in search for truth, for understanding of life, in the way it is given.

The eleventh one, “Sentir tu piel” (“To feel your skin”), is to leave our desires or goals aside, in order to awaken the magic of the unknown, through the natural wisdom of skin. Has to do with chemistry. Chemistry is not learnt or taught. It is just given.

Finally, the twelfth song, “Gleichgueltigkeit”, which was on her first album, and is now live, comes from a moment of monotony in her life, and it's about stopping avoiding one's life, and befriending, without fears , with the own madness, stripping it of so many structures, and allowing oneself, to be new.

To flow with the river of life, not knowing where the current may lead, but trusting oneself. And going neither blindly, nor unconsciously, but present.
