Album Notes
Inger Marie Gundersen
Make This Moment

- with my mouth open...
Producer Lars Martin Myhre says that never did he get a bigger surprise than when Inger Marie Gundersen made her debut in a recording studio. She was displaying a voice so controlled, so beautiful and so personal at her first recording date that the seasoned producer was left sitting there with his mouth open, admiring the awareness and the warm and direct communication in her voice. In a music world where different shades of jazz-pop and more or less succsessful artists have entered the mainstream, this mature first timer enters with an unprecedented maturity and command of the style.

Melodic jazz
Anyone hearing the debut album of IMG, "Make This Moment", will realise that this is an artist belonging to the elite of this style, and that she is totally involved with a kind of music that she really loves. After years singing in rock bands and big bands, trying out different styles of music, Inger Marie has found a home in jazz. The love and maturity with which she delivers sublime interpretations of both new songs and well-known standards, makes this a debut album of rare quality.

Mother & child reunion
The title tune, "Make This Moment" was written by Espen Larsen and Jan Thygesen, both well-known profiles of the local music scene in Inger Marie Gundersen's hometown of Arendal, and the band backing her in the studio demonstrates the high standard of musicians in this area. A special mention must be made of the fact that the impressive saxophone playing on the album comes from the horn of Øyvind G. Stømer, Inger Marie Gundersens own son, who joins his mother in the studio after playing with some of the major musicans and artists in Norway.

A very fine artist that deserves worldwide exposure!
Overall this disc has great vocal work, wonderful eclectic song selection, excellent musicianship and arrangements and fine production. A new favorite that gets better with each listening.

Ingers Talent is nothing short of Astounding!!
You know occasionally a CD comes along & just levels everything else you have ever heard. I have some great CD's in my collection but the moment i put this CD on & played it through my system it floored me. I know that there are alot of covers (in fact they may all be covers??) but give me a list of Inger' covers any day of the week. As has already been stated her vocal style is just fantastic. A nice slow mellow pace is the order of the day. This CD is also for the audiophiles. The recording & production is also great. Alot of work has gone into this CD by alot of talented people. Pass this up at your own peril i say. This is the type of CD that when you play it to your friends they are all going to want to know "Who is this girl"? There is talent out there all right ... don't let this one get away.

Brilliant and genuine !
There is no doubt at all. Inger Marie Gundersen´s
"Make this Moment" is more than just good. It is brilliant
Very rarely does an artist display such convincing artistic maturity on a debut album.

A refreshingly tasteful affair.
During some downtime from watching American Idol on the eight nights it seems to be on each week, I was able to listen to Make This Moment by vocalist Inger Marie Gundersen. The album is a nice reminder that vocal performances do not always have to be unbridled exhibitions of melismatic acrobatics. Indeed the hallmark of the album is an admirable restraint, and even austerity in the vocals and instrumentation.

Make This Moment features a unique mix of new songs, standards, and classic pop/rock offerings. “Let It Be Me" popularized by the Everly Brothers, doesn’t necessarily lend itself to extended improvisation, but it does give Gundersen the chance to caress the lovely melody with her smoky voice. She also offers a tender version of the perennial “Always On My Mind"

Gundersen’s band offers sympathetic, yet unobtrusive support. A medley of “Fool on the Hill" and “Nature Boy" features a sensitive saxophone solo by Øivind G. Stømer, who is the son of Gundersen. However, for the most part, the performances remain lean and free of any showy solos. The focus is on the songs.

Make This Moment is an encouraging debut solo recording by a promising talent. Gundersen and her band treat their material with the utmost respect and delicacy. The album is a refreshingly tasteful affair.
