Lay Me Down

A new voice of beautiful intensity, Ingrid Ferris' music is a blend of Modern Folk and Baroque Pop and something so indefinably unique, perhaps the emergence of an entirely new genre that will be defined by you, the listener.

Album Notes
Singer-song writer Ingrid Ferris’ debut solo album Woods Girl is a music that emerges out of the rain and mist, inland waters and green forests of the Pacific Northwest, a point on the continent where so many indie musicians have found their first footing, playing in grange halls, defunct breweries, cafes and bars. The music is as much a part of the landscape as Iceland’s or Ireland’s is a part of theirs, a post-modern weaving of song, sound, and spirit., elements of the miraculous, moments of darkness, shards of shadow and light. The journey to discover what one already knows, woven into the imagination through modern soul song, industrial gospel, sweet heart ache and bellyfull laughter. Music of what is.
To describe the music of Ingrid Ferris’ Woods Girl album one must begin with her voice, one that you will immediately, and with all of intuitive senses know, has such an intense global appeal that you will make note to self; “Here is a voice that crosses all cultural distinctions, a voice for our times, a voice that goes directly to that place in the heart reserved for authentic expression, in other words, passion”. This is a voice trained classically, trained in jazz, trained in Irish pubs, and folk clubs, and around camp fires. This is a voice distilled by a heart that burns to express that indefinable harmonic, (perhaps resonating with the rotation of planetary spheres.) that brings each note into alignment to express in each moment the haunted yearnings, the love drenched embrace, the unspoken apology, the forgiveness and the redemption.
And once you have listened to her songs, you will also begin to take note of the music arrangements, the musicianship, the engineering. This comes from the collaborative triune of Ingrid Ferris, Diane Sonntag and Bruce Whitcomb ( see information below). Very few artists create alone. Collaboration is usually at the core of contemporary music. And then behold! Once in a blue moon a synergy happens. Call it group genius, call it the hundredth monkey effect, but you get this phenomenon of a music creation that, by its careful honesty, and mercurial genius, ends up defining a generation. Watch and see, “make note to self”: this music has that potential. And so we thank you for reading this, and now ask that you take just a bit more time out of your busy day, sit back, get comfortable, and listen to this new music, a music that you’ve never heard before.
