Romanian/Canadian violinist, Ioan Harea has been a prominent presence on the Canadian music scene since moving to Ottawa from Venezuela in 1986.
A brilliant and versatile violinist, Ioan Harea has performed as soloist and as a chamber musician in Canada, the United States, Venezuela, Italy, France, Romania and Spain.
Ioan Harea is the founder and leader of The Harea String Quartet and The Virtuosi Orchestra which performs regularly for the Prime Minister of Canada:
most recently in an evening of Canadian and American music for Prime Minister Paul Martin and US President George W Bush.
As well as maintaining a private violin studio in Ottawa, Ioan Harea is also on the faculty of The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, New York and a member of The Orchestra of Northern New York.
Ioan Harea has a recording contract with Ottawa record label Dark Skippy Records.
He has recorded "Ballade", "Classic Gypsy", "Sentimental Strings" and "Versatility".
Thanks to the generous support of a grant from the City of Ottawa, Ioan Harea is recording a new CD of works from the Baroque to the present day for unaccompanied violin.

"Ioan Harea Unaccompanied" has bin released on April 21 2005 in performance on the Virtuosi Productions Concert Series at the National Arts Centre.
