Album Notes
The first recording from the IronWorks Percussion Duo is a representation of both the group's aesthetic and a diverse mix of the wide variety of sounds and styles that modern percussion music cover. Pieces such as Volume and Arc & Current combine steel drums with more standard instruments to create an exotic soundscape that can jump from gentle and legato to aggressive and biting. The largest piece, Uncompression, features both members playing virtuosic parts on a set-up of over 30 percussion instruments that include a musical saw. Also featured are two original compositions by Gerhart and Clarke that showcase their individual styles within unique collections of percussion played with a variety of techniques. Two of the pieces on this recording were winners of the Duo's first Annual composition contest. This album will intrigue experienced percussionists, introduce new pieces and concepts to student players, expand the palette of percussion for composers, and stimulate the musical mind of the casual listener.

Colorful and diverse
The Ironworks Percussion Duo's CD offers percussion pieces in various styles. Especially attractive are several works with steel drum. There is something unique and colorful in utilizing the steel drum in a "contemporary classical" setting presenting a new flavor not commonly found in percussion collections. The 3-movement composition, "Uncompressions" has a thick texture that truly sounds like 4 players although it is only two. Outstanding performances and production values overall...highly recommended.
