by I Tromboni

There is an old saying that music is either a song or it’s a dance. And while all music may not fit so neatly into these categories, this album represents some of our favorite examples of both.

Album Notes
Two elements – melody and movement – are at the heart of what makes music so special and engages most
of us every day. The wonderful thing is, with seemingly limitless possibilities, music allows room for everybody to have their
own favourite tune or toe tapper. Essentially, T’Anguish is a collection of song and dance, some of our favourites.

Trombonist, composer, and educator Ian McDougall is an iconic Canadian jazz musician. Perhaps best known for his work
as lead trombonist and soloist with Rob McConnell’s Boss Brass, Ian toured Great Britain with the John Dankworth Band,
and was a founding member and lead trombonist with Brass Connection. His compositions and arrangements in both jazz
and classical idioms are performed internationally and iTromboni is fortunate to call Ian a friend and a wonderful mentor.
His contributions to this recording are huge as his composition T’Anguish is the title track and his unmistakable playing is
featured on Lightly Turning as well as Bijou.

From its beginning, iTromboni has been a trombone quintet with five members (naturally!), but over the years we have come
to realize that life is busy and so our team has grown to include six members to accommodate each of our schedules and still
allow the group to function. This recording project uses all six members in different quintet combinations.
